I wouldn't speak bad of the IAF. There really is no comparison between BAF and IAF. Like none. Like zero. So please if you want to be taken seriously, don't make ridiculous assertions. That being said, hopefully after BAF gets started on acquiring some more modern types and mastering the tactics and tech, BAF capability will be something to comment on. I have no doubt BAF can be a small, modern, and highly effective force given some time if things are handled properly. Also I will just leave this here as an example of what Bengali pilots are capable of.

My words exactly. IAF has a long professional history compared to BAF, we still have a lot to learn operationally. We should not underestimate IAF.

However I have no disagreement on the spirit and intent in which @Species made the statement. His heart is in the right place. We have to grow - a lot.

Our Air Force does not have to equal India's. All it has to do is be a 'modern, defensive and credible deterrent'.

Look at Singapore's armed forces vs. that of Malaysia/Indonesia. That's a great analog.

You are entitled to your opinion.

However deriding someone's assessment without objective reason leaves some holes in your own credibility.

Not that I myself care (I have plenty of evidence to back my claims), but saying *why* my opinion is rubbish (instead of just making an off-the-cuff statement) would help others in this forum. That is why we come here, regardless of background, to learn something. :-)
it could have been a boeing engineer selling off blueprints to china, commiting treason... but afaik there is no such record, however a northdrop grumman employee ones sold of sensitive tech to third party and he was indian/....

you can't just go about saying y-20 design was adopted from c-17 by miniaturizing the tech.... but doing that itself is harder and requires more time, test etc.... just because they look the same on the outside doesnt' mean theyre built the same.... a pretty good ex is mig29 and mig 35.... looks the same but internally everything is redesigned.

Govts. get away with this all the time. Unless you get caught, hacking is legit....

I did not say 'everything' was identical. Just borrowing a few well proven things (e.g. wings, fuselage and wingbox design) and improving others selectively (vertical tail, glass cockpit avionics and undercarriage) is a great idea. The Chinese have flexibility in ordering avionics and undercarriage hydraulic parts from Western suppliers or build them to more up-to-date western specs, the Russians choose not to do it.

In any case we can disagree until Y-20 gets to Dhaka and then we can compare between IL-76 internals and structural parts.

You think a twitter feed with "on parle" is confirmation? LOL.

Mate, you know that China will arm BD to the teeth as they want to neutralise India while they deal with Japan and US. Not that India can ever be much of a threat anyway.

Please check out below thread on the advances of Chinese submarine technology:

As you can see the new Chinese Type 95 SSN will be at least the match of the latest US nuclear submarines.

Instead of worrying about BD, please focus on your own "country" that is the abberation that is the legal entity India.

I said this many times I don't want to say it again....
IAF doesn't pose bd a threat... their threat is Pakistan and they set their priorities accordingly....
How many fighter sqd based near bd compared to near Pakistan and China? Yeah that's right.....

If someone poses a direct threat to bd it's Myanmar... and we should be prepared accordingly.

OK. Can I have your in-depth technical reason why?
In shortest terms: Chinese projects lack in transparency. You may never know how good Chinese hardware is in real-time situations unless you are privy to the latest in Chinese, Russian and American hardware designs and you are in the position to draw a comparison yourself. Chinese hardware has pleasing aesthetics though.

Hype is the game of business in current times; it generates sales.

While Chinese engineering capabilities have advanced significantly over the course of years, Americans are miles ahead of other states in the matters of Research and Development and developing new technologies. Americans have fielded the most sophisticated and complex (sea, land and space) infrastructure for its defense-related needs in the world. You can take a look, if you have connections and resources to explore it.
