ISLAMABAD: Pakistani defence forces have readied an operational plan to respond to any Indian "misadventure" and have identified Indian "targets", according to reports in influential sections of the media here. Army chief Gen Raheel Sharif reiterated on Friday thatPakistan's armed forces would defend "each and every inch" of the country.

A report in The News claimed that Indian "targets" had been selected for retaliatory strikes and quoted defence sources to say, "Pakistan is fully prepared to meet any military challenge from India. Our operational plan is ready, quid pro quo targets are finalised and forces have been dedicated." The media reports, likely to have been circulated with the intention of sending a message that the Pakistani military is prepared and to counter the impression that India was seriously considering military action, said the army was ready for any level of Indian aggression.

A statement from Inter-Services Public Relations, the army's media wing, said Raheel Sharif 's remarks were part of his address to officers at the National Counter Terrorism Centre. "Let there be no doubt that our valiant armed forces have the capability to counter complete threat spectrum and Inshallah (if god wills), with the backing of the entire nation, we will defend each and every inch of our beloved country, no matter what the cost," Sharif said.

Sources told The News, "India is well aware of our capabilities. Whether it is a cold start or hot pursuit, we are ready." Pakistani defence sources claimed that they were ready for any air space violation or ground attack and Pakistan would immediately respond to any act of aggression.

The report expressed the expectation in official circles that Pakistan's military capacity was likely to deter India from going beyond war hysteria. Sources said there were reports that India might go for an attack in Balochistan through its proxies while using Afghan soil.

The reports claimed that the Indian DGMO even went to the extent of saying that Pakistan made AK-47 assault rifles were used in the attack, whereas Pakistan did not manufacture AK-47s. The Indian DGMO did not make such a claim.

who writes this crap ?
All these "claims" and "rumours" of Indian attack detailing this will happen or that will happen are not stupid. They are intentional and designed to assuage the angry mob in India who expect action. Modi would look terrible not a fart came out post Uri. Thus all these rumours are planted to keep the media headlines filled with ambigious news of action. These slowly will fizzle out once the Indian public calm down.

It is simple rhetoric to mask over "no action".
