What is driving foreign policy of India? What made India mellows the stance? Yeah i have seen that chest thumping and the tit for tat discussion...... and you are right that it was embarrassing to have withdrawn from that position.....There was also speculation of getting some concession from china thru this bargaining..... But later it was understood that GoI goofed up by selecting a wrong guy for this bargain.....

Why you both countries keep fighting even over petty issues?. though I guess it is good for the regional stability that no country allows its land and resources being used for mud slinging and false propaganda against other countries especially neighbours. Indians are good at propaganda when it comes to Pakistan (my personal experience) but they are on their knees when it is the powerful China as this incident signifies. So what's the lesson brought home.

Most probably they were using an ETA Tourist visa while you need to lodge a paper application for a conference as it is a different visa class.

Yep.. Doesn't seem like there were any concessions, But a lot of confusion in different government departments on this issue, The foreign ministry and the immigration department seems to have lacked consultation

India wouldn't have wanted to be seen hosting individuals with red notices from the International Police Agency.. Most probably they realized this a bit too late after the goof up
