Felt, he was bargaining hard but elder chaudhari instilled some sense

To be speaker of Punjab

He was first to do a campaign against corporal punishment in schools
Pervaiz Elahi, PA speaker will good for both. Win, win.

Imran is only keeping Mianwali NA seat which means, there are 4 NA vacant seat. There are other politicians who won more than one NA seat but they can only keep one.

ISLAMABAD: Getting a simple majority in the 342-seat National Assembly has become an uphill task for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as despite all-out efforts the party, which emerged as the biggest political force of the country in July 25 polls, is still far off from reaching the magical figure of 172.

At the moment, the PTI – even if it musters the support of smaller allied parties including the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) and independents and adds candidates on reserved seats – has 168 seats and is four members short of a simple majority in the lower house of parliament.

Interestingly on the day of voting for the election of the next prime minister, the number 168 will further reduce to 161 given the fact that all those MNAs-elect belonging to ruling coalition who have won multiple seats will have to retain only one seat and vacate the other ones.

PML-Q to hold talks with PTI at Bani Gala today, sources claim

Article 91 of the Constitution describes criteria to elect a prime minister. Its subsection 4 says: “Prime Minister shall be elected by the votes of the majority of the total membership of the National Assembly.”

The total membership of the National Assembly is 342 and majority can be attained by securing the support of 172 MNAs. Currently, the PTI has 160 votes in total. However, it does not mean that if one fails to get a simple majority, they cannot become the prime minister.

“Provided that, if no member secures such majority (simple majority) in the first poll, a second poll shall be held between the members who secure the two highest numbers of votes in the first poll and the member who secures a majority of votes of the members present and voting shall be declared to have been elected as Prime Minister,” subsection 4 further reads.

The current situation suggests that prime minister in waiting for Imran Khan will not be able to secure a simple majority. However, he will be elected by securing ‘majority of votes of the members’ who will be present in the House on voting day.

PTI

According to provisional results available with the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) website, the PTI has won 116 seats. Four independent MNAs – one from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and three from Punjab – have so far joined the party putting its total to 120.

The PTI will be able to get roughly 25 reserved seats for women in the National Assembly – 15 from Punjab, seven from K-P and three from Sindh. The PTI is also expected to get some four seats reserved for minorities in the lower house. It brings the party’s total strength to 149 seats.

Allied parties

The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) on Monday pledged its all-out support for the PTI at the Centre and in Punjab also. The PML-Q has four seats.

The PTI is also in talks with the MQM. Even if the MQM becomes an ally of the PTI, collectively all the coalition partners including the MQM-P will be able to bring 19 more seats.

Among allied partners, the MQM tops the chart with six seats while it will also be allotted a seat reserved for women. So collectively the MQM-P will add seven to the grand total.

The Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) has four seats while it will also be given a seat reserved for women. So BAP will have a total of five seats. The Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) has two seats, while Sheikh Rashid’s Awami Muslim League has one seat. It will take the grand total to 168.

PTI in lead to form govt in Punjab as nine independent MPAs-elect join party

Following one MNA one vote formula for the PM’s election, this number will be drop to 161 – as the PTI chief Imran Khan will vacate four seats, Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Tahir Sadiq and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi one seat each.

Some 13 MNAs from across the country are elected as independents. Four of them have already joined the PTI while nine have yet to take decisions. If all of those nine independents announce to join PTI, the number will scale up to 170, still short of two votes to get a simple majority.

To gain a simple majority, the PTI has also initiated talks with Balochistan National Party (BNP) that has won three seats. According to a statement, senior PTI leader Jahangir Khan Tareen on Monday telephoned Akhtar Mengal and invited him to join the coalition government.

“Mengal has promised that he will hold talks with PTI leadership in the coming days,” reads the statement.
Imran is only keeping Mianwali NA seat which means, there are 4 NA vacant seat. There are other politicians who won More that one seat will take only one.

Hi there, already posted an answer in a similar thread. Even 168 seats in NA at the time of PM voting is enough for PTI. Kindly read here.

Sir, I am asking about vacant NA seats.
Don’t care much about magic numbers.

Non patriots and non serious characters were sidelined by this election.
Ji, PSP are history, even though established wanted MQM and PSP to become one to challenge PPP but somehow established made a deal with PPP to eliminate PSP and reduce MQM to just 6 NA seats compare to 24 NA seats in last election.
Karachi is very important to Pakistan and established doesn’t want it to be controlled by some non patriotic mafia. PTI have taken majority of NA seats in Karachi and that’s the start. Next it will be other cities and interior Sindh to reduce PPP to Larkana.

There was news today that PPP has refused to back PMLN in punjab and I was thinking Zardari be like "Kaisa Diya" lol
Zardari don't wants PMLN to be in power. The bad situation of PMLN means a win for PPPP in future. Zardari wants to contain PMLN and build PPPP on the ruins of PMLN.

Zardari should be gone in few month. Either he will be in jail or get an NRO and leave Pakistan for good.

"Vacant" extra seats are obviously IK 4, Sarwar 1, Ilahi 1, Shahbaz and Hamza have 1 extra each PP and NA so one of them will vacate provincial while the other National, Fawad Ch. too has won 1 PP and 1 NA and he will probably vacate PP seat.

The real confusion even among politicians was; if extra seats of parties count and exactly where they count as well as what number to achieve majority...

I hope this answers your particular query.
