Jammu: Three civilians died and 10 were injured as Pakistani soldiers engaged in intense shelling from across the border, violating ceasefire thrice in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch sector today.

The firings come as Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif sent his greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Independence Day and called for amicable relations between the two countries.

The shelling in Balakote sector started in the afternoon, in which three people, including the village headman, were killed and seven others were injured. They are being airlifted to Jammu, Deputy Commissioner Poonch Nisar Ahamd Wani told NDTV. The shelling is still on.

In Sabjian sector, three people were injured in the firing in two spots that took place in the morning. This sector has witnessed the worst shelling over the last week and more dozen than families have been forced to migrate from the area.

Mr Sharif's message, released by the Pakistan High Commission earlier today, said, "I would like to reiterate that promoting friendly, cooperative and good neighbourly relations between our two countries is in our mutual interest and also necessary for peace and prosperity in South Asia."

For last one week, there has been an escalation of tension along Line of Control in Poonch. There have been 28 violations of the 2003 ceasefire in August.

In a departure from tradition, Indian and Pakistani troops did not exchange sweets along the Attari border yesterday -- when Pakistan had its Independence Day -- or today.

There have been 32 violations of the 2003 ceasefire agreement in August and this is the seventh consecutive day that Pakistani troops have shelled Indian posts along the Line of Control in the Jammu region.

Pakistan violated the ceasefire 192 times along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir till July 26, the government had told the Lok Sabha this week.

. .
So much anger for not getting sweets??
In past two days we have lost at least 2 civilians due to firing by Indian Forces. Still our forces should use accurate weapons to hit Indian Forces.

Retaliation on the way ! Insha alla

Your army is too desperate to thwart NSA level talks where India will produce proof and ask for proof about RAW involvement claims . We already broke you in the past ... Am not sure why you always give hard to for your people ... Indian Army will retaliate at approximate time wait for it .

.
so sad ...................RIP
wish DGMOs call soon and end this madness

. .
If you are so daring and want to defeat us ... Then declare war ... let's see what happens then and let's see what your friend will do ... We are prepared ...I think once NSA level talks are over India will give befitting reply for unwanted provocation

Shupa pawa STRONK ᕦ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ᕤ LETS DO THIS

.....

Just waiting for the inevitable collapse and then the explosive Indian farts.
Ya ya ... We are all waiting for war to happen don't we ? That's the mood of the nation ... its been a long time . I guess chips are being placed for the right time when we can minimise the effect to the lowest on our economy ... Your underestimating BJP and our PM ... you will soon know ... Some feels before the end of term we will go for war .

.
I expected something worse though, Guess Independence day security prevented Udhampur or attacks in Kashmir.
