India may increase the number of fighters and then split the order for two or more fighters. They want to keep US happy so F-18 is a strong possibility. They may also succumb to France's blackmail to supply avionics for JF-17 to Pakistan and so they may also place order for Rafale.

Actually, the whole MMRCA project is for 200 fighters (126 + 74 optional).

I will not be surprised if India plays numbers here and there and ends up buying 2 different fighters.

That's purely a Brazilian decision. If amerikhastan don't like it they must'nt complain. Brazil is a sovereign country, they don't want other's influence on their economy and politics. Fair to say "Keep Out".

I doubt U.A.E would have ordered so early.

Yes, u r right, we currently have too many types, but most of the Migs will be history in a few years time. Around 2020/2022, IAF would have transformed itself into a leaner and even more effective fighting force.

But it seem pretty much done for India. I will be really surprised if it is not selected.

U left Mirages there..

Right now LCA is not in operation so it wont count neither would MRCA.
Jaguars, Mig-21, Mig-27 & Harriers will be out in another decade. Mirages & MiG-29 will be in service till 2025. MMRCA will stay in IAF for next 30 years or so.
A different strategy & different ambitions cud b the possible reasons for operating these many types of fighters IMO. So cant compare with the other countries that r shrinking the number of kinds of aircrafts their defences r operating

Inshort a decade is a long time, lca will be operational before 2015, lets not cross 2020 I stand correct. 9 types huge resources, terrible nightmare for ground crew.

so Brazil and France have been getting quite close militarily.

If u forget ToTand sanctions .. Battle proven , Bomb Truck SH with Top Class AESA...and far loWer cost.. Is the Best.

But overall... Brazil has made a great decision.
Rafale is the best fighter deal they can get.

Asking an off topic question ... its like IAF will be operating till 2018, five different kinds of twin engine crafts and may be 6 if MRCA is divided into 2 types, and least 3 types of single engine aircrafts included LCA, Mirage, Mig 27, I am counting Mig 21 is going to be phased out till then, where as AMCA I am not counting ... is this not going to be difficult and expensive to handle all of these different types ???
