You reminded me of the Thunderbird in fantastic beasts and where to find them. What a bird that was and the music when it sacrificed itself in the end

We should consider non-bird names and look to things like Turkish Mythology for powerful symbolic names.
A simple word, that can be pronounced all around the world, but has great meaning

I say we adopt:

"Iye"

so it would be JF-17 Thunder-Iye; but Pronounced "Thunder-Eye" but in Turkish it would seen as Spirit of Thunder

According to the wikipedia page: a spirit in Turkic mythology who is a guardian, patron or protector[1] of a place, person, lineage, nation, natural assets or an animal. Although such spirits are called "masters" or "posessors", they are not necessarily subject to worship.[2]

The Thunder-Iye name will allow people to know that a Thunder Fighter can be upgraded to a higher standard, and we don't have to ditch the Thunder name; Similar to Mirage 2000 and Mirage 2000-5

@Hakikat ve Hikmet
What do you think? Does the Iye name carry any bad or haram meaning? Just want to check before be push this any further. Also are their any Turkish products that already use this name? Also how would this name be received in Turkey?

More Details on the Name "Iye" for wikipedia
The term means owner, master, lord, possessor in Turkic languages. Ezen (familiar spirit, protector spirit) has the same meaning (owner, possessor) in Mongolian language.[3]

An İye guides, helps, or protects animals, individuals, lineages, nations, and even inanimate assets such as mountains or rivers. According to the shamanic worldview, everything is alive, bearing an inherent virtue and power. In this context power animals represent a person's connection to all life, their qualities of character, and their power. They are the helping or ministering spirit or familiar which empowers individuals and is essential for success in any venture undertaken. It is believed that most persons have power animals, or tutelary spirits, which empower and protect them from harm – this is comparable to tutelary deities. In these traditions, the İye may also lend the wisdom or attributes of its kind to those under its protection.

Also each town or city had one or more İye, whose protection was considered particularly vital in time of war and siege. An İye is spirit who is regarded as the tutelary spirit or protector of a nation, place, clan, family, or person.

JF17 Block-1&2 : Thunder
JF17 Block-3 : Fierce Thunder
JF-17 B : Thunder Strike

We could also go for Markhor; we already have the logo for it. especially after PIA didn't want to use it. Animation showing the horns turning into Thunder bolts could be a nice touch, even if on the amateur side a bit. :yay:

The Markhor Name would replace the Thunder name.

Also this is not my Primary suggestion. I wanted to suggest "Thunder-Iye" i.e. "Spirt of Thunder" in Turkish, but pronounced ThunderEye, see post #49 for a more detailed explanation.

Although I'm sure of the pronunciation, it could also be Thunder E, if the Design is significantly improved over the earlier Blocks, similar to the F-16A/B, C/D, and E/F or the Gripen E

A Simple Change in name, the different designations could help in sales to different countries like Azerbaijan, with its Turkish language links. While the Simple "Thunder E" could be a nice competitor to the Gripen E in the competition for the African market (Such as the potential sale to Kenya), where the Gripen E could be sold, as the Gripen C/D are all already operating on the continent in South Africa.

I’ve never watched fantastic beasts, but these giants eagles did exist before the flood of Noha pbuh and that’s where the legend comes from. But JF-17 Thunderbird sounds cool and aggressive for marketing. Jf-17 is also inspired by f-16 so giving it American mythology name such as thunderbird gives credit for inspiration and also thunderbird explains the role of Jf-17 thunder overall a giant eagle, riding in a storm, hunting and protecting against evil. Hope it makes sense. Lol
