Having seen this for myself , couldn't agree more....not just Apartment complexes ...bungalows at the outskirts of Bangalore close to the Tech Parks are teeming with them...

Are they all in IT, as the video seems to suggest? Why does India need to import foreign workers?

They don't make up the workers , thank god we have more local talent than required for that ...but they are in directorial or senior technical advisory positions . We try to hire the best technical brains to take our IT industry forward ...eg Tata Consultancy , Infosys etc throw open their recruitment to bright minds all over the Globe . Guys from abroad are given an equal chance of competing with Indian recruits --as much as possible.

Infy has campuses in N. America as well. They recruit Americans from local universities. Anybody who is selected as an Intern will be trained in India while being paid in USDs. A full time employee too can select where he would like to work. If you are being paid in $$$ and you stay in India the savings is huge!!. Not to forget such work experiences for Americans does look good on their resume.

Also, since these campuses teach you the latest skills not something you get to learn even in US universities, the prospects are super attractive. When I said "Latest skill set", one may learn how to design, analyze and write code, if your job requires you to code in SAS or RoR etc.. their training makes the learning curve less inclined.

The video has some truth to it. American companies tend to send their employees to their Indian branches (pay is slightly lower but in US$) because its cheaper for them.

My brother, even though he's Pakistani, was offered a transfer to the Indian branch of the company he worked at.

But it's not necessary that they transfer you to India, they'll transfer you to any of their overseas branches (yes Pakistan too).

This video was uploaded on sept 2010.

Its strange that talented Indians engineers and doctors are leaving india to seek better future and standard of living in western countries while top american graduates heading to India for jobs :)

That's why I was confused. I know a few Americans and Australians who went to India to train the Indian workforce. However, the video talks about interns, which is a bit different.

We try to hire the best technical brains to take our IT industry forward ...eg Tata Consultancy , Infosys etc throw open their recruitment to bright minds all over the Globe . Guys from abroad are given an equal chance of competing with Indian recruits --as much as possible.

That doesn't add up. Almost every single Indian I know in the west counts the days until he gets a local work permit and can quit the Indian company to go work for a western company, since the latter tend to pay better and/or have better work environment.

Not to forget such work experiences for Americans does look good on their resume.

Not sure about that. Most western companies are suspicious of foreign, especially non-western, experience. Nothing specific to India: they will just as suspicious of experience claimed in Pakistan, China or Philippines.
