Don't equate class vs caste. People do not born into a class. But Indians burn to a caste. Dalits can't improve to a Sudra and onward to a Brahmin. In other societies, even the most poor can move forward.

why not? the reason we want to abolish casteism is because it led to systematic discrimination. It is just one form of classification. If you are objective and want to eliminate discrimination, you should object to all forms of classification that leads to discrimination.

Nobody wants to become Brahmin after being born non-Brahmin just to become Brahmin. Their problem is the discrimination they face. It is the discrimination that we should be objecting to.

'By birth' by itself is not an issue. People become rich on birth through inheritance. People become healthy or sick by birth. People look great or ugly by birth. People eat meat or don't by birth. People worship Krishna Allah or Christ by birth. People are legacy-admitted to HarvardU or not, by birth. .....

I will not deny caste system exists but it does not apply to our day to day activities. It is more to do with marrying into your caste. Nobody goes around to find out what their caste is before they shake their hands. I can see the changes that are taking place which gives me hope that even caste will be cast into history books. I remember when I was small even our cooks and maids in my house had to be from same caste. Now that rigidity is slowly vanishing in cities. I don't know about rural setup.
