Unscheduled outages ‘revenge’ move: Resident Welfare Associations

TNN | Feb 1, 2014, 04.55AM IST

NEW DELHI: Several parts of east Delhi are already facing long outages. Power cuts, lasting two to six hours, have been reported from many areas in the past several days. Residents complained that the outages were not part of the load-shedding schedule provided by the discoms. Many alleged it was a retaliatory move on part of the discoms for being subjected to a CAG audit of their accounts since their inception in 2002.

Residents of Mayur Vihar Phase II said they had no electricity from 11am to 5pm. "We were in the dark about what was happening. The whole day was ruined," said a resident. Intermittent outages are being reported from Patparganj for a month. "The cuts have become more frequent since AAP formed the government. The party is not being able to live up to its promise of uninterrupted power supply,'' said another resident. Other areas were also affected. Siddharth Batra, who stays in South Extension II, claimed to have been facing a two-hour power cut almost every day.

CAG has started scrutinizing accounts of the three private companies amid their confrontation with Delhi government. Sources in power department said the auditor has already taken a large volume of documents from BSES Yamuna Power Ltd, BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd and Tata Power Delhi. The government had announced the audit on January 1. The order by AAP, which hopes to find irregularities, was challenged by the discoms by the Delhi high court refused to stay it.
