Boycott of Chinese goods: China warns of impact on India-bound investments

Sir , you are in UK and believe me its far easy to change perception in west then in South Asia , I can bet even Pakistan people must spending huge amounts on non Chinese products if ther are available ,

For speakers i prefer bose , I used music monitors small compact and perfect sound . I never said all chinese goods are bad quality they are great but their consumers are very less in India.

I understand what you are saying mate, but believe me I own a pair of Q20's and a pair of Dr DRE beats, and the Q20's are better....The Gadget Show UK (famous tech show in UK TV) ran tests with random people and the Q20's came out better in every department. Even though the goods are cheaper, but they match more expensive brands for quality, that also explains the price differences you speak of. Of course Chinese TV's have to play catch up, but they are getting there fast. What people need to realise is that the Chinese economy is changing shape.

Well it's sold in bazar my friend, what do folks expect?

Exactly and these type of products are what the public is boycotting.

The Chinese electronics are still doing very well during this festival season, not impacted by the boycott.

.
China cant ignore Indian buyer...India is one huge market.....threatening wont work....
It is not complete boycott but it can be worst if China remain arrogant...

Comes after calls made to this effect this Diwali season, avers its exports will not be affected.
Amid calls from some quarters for boycott of Chinese goods in ongoing Diwali season, China said on Thursday that any such move would negatively impact the India-bound investments from its enterprises and also the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

China also asserted that any such boycott would not have much impact on its exports, but “without proper substitutes, the biggest losers of the boycott of Chinese goods will be Indian traders and consumers.”

In a statement issued here, the Chinese embassy has said China is the world’s largest trading nation in goods, with its exports in 2015 amounted to $2,276.5 billion.

‘Just 2 p.c. of China’s total exports’

“The exports to India accounted for only 2 per cent of China’s total exports and India’s boycott of Chinese goods will not have much impact on China’s exports. China is more concerned that the boycott will negatively affect Chinese enterprises to invest in India and the bilateral cooperation, which both Chinese and Indian people are not willing to see,” the statement said.

Amid rising tension in Indo-Pak ties, there have been calls from some fringe entities, including through social media platforms, about boycott of Chinese goods to protest against China’s support to Pakistan.

Apex traders body CAIT (Confederation of All India Traders) recently said the sale of Chinese products may decline by 30 per cent this Diwali.

Big market for Chinese wares

India is a big market for Chinese products and over the years import of toys, furniture, building hardware, crackers, lighting and electric fittings, furnishing fabric, office stationery, electronic appliances, consumer electronics, kitchen equipment & appliances, gift items, watches etc from China has increased to a great extent.

Chinese products are generally low-priced which is the root cause of infiltration of Chinese goods in the Indian market, CAIT had said.

In its statement, the Chinese embassy referred to reports that local sellers in Sadar Bazaar, the largest wholesale market of household items in India, have complained about their Chinese goods sale dropping by at least 20 per cent.

“The boycott effect will not limit to Diwali-related products, but extended to other Chinese products that are not related to the festival. In the long-run, the boycott will not only hurt Chinese goods sale, but also cause negative effects to consumers in India,” it said.

China-India trade ties

The embassy further said China-India trade cooperation has deepened over the years and the bilateral trade has grown 24 times in 15 years, from $2.9 billion in 2000 to $71.6 billion in 2015.

“China has become India’s largest trading partner, source of imports and fourth largest export market. Moreover, India is China’s largest trading partner in South Asia and ninth largest export market in the world,” it said.

Mutual benefits

According to the statement, the distinct features of China-India trade are mutual benefits and growing inter- dependence, which contributes to the full use of factors of production and maximization of the benefits to all the people.

“In 2015, China has imported 2 billion dollars worth of cotton and more than 100 million dollars worth of black tea from India, bring benefits to 1.2 million cotton growers and 50,000 tea farmers and sellers in India.

“Moreover, 60-70 per cent of Indian APIs for its pharmaceutical industry are from China. China has played an important role in Indian pharmaceutical industry’s march to the European Union and America market. China also exported a lot of electronic and household products which are attractive both in price and quality. Chinese products not only lowered India’s inflation rate, but also fulfilled Indian ordinary people, especially the low-income people’s daily needs, greatly improved their life quality,” the statement said.

The American car industry and Japan wow......Have you seen Apple in Japan, 106 million Japanese have an Iphone. If it's not one brand it will be another.
As for the comparisons, you need to name the Sony product. Beside the debate was about whether the Chinese make quality products, they do.

apple is an exception.

look there is a difference if you take 100 products from sony and 100 products from xyz I am very sure sony will have 90% reliability and xyz will have 50%. Quality/reliability is built over period of time. There might one product from xyz which is superior but not all and again it is over period of time say 10-20 years not a year or two.

We are from internet generation who do all these research...etc and buy ,but ask the older generation how they would buy it. They would simply insist on brand name which have been proved for ages and chinese are not there yet.
Chinese are not simply there yet.
Well if you lend me 10k I will still buy japanese product ..for your own good :p:

If not then Japanese are missing the comfort of Cadillac and Lincon(Ford) , power of Jeep and Chevy .

So now there are exceptions? Ok....
It makes no sense repeating the whole quality argument i.e. Chinese products have poor reliability, they don't, and experts in their respective fields agree. It's also not just one or two products, it's quite a few actually. I agree with on the whole reliability and time go hand in hand, however with the advancements in technology, the time span is narrowed.
The whole thing regarding brands is to do with time, and the Chinese haven't had the exposure the likes of Panasonic have, but that doesn't mean they lack quality, and the folks who have bought Chinese made brands rate them favourably.

.
China needs India more than India needs China. Chinese economy is slowing down and the Chinese investors are looking to invest abroad, and India is a hot market right now. If Chinese don't invest it is their loss. Some other country will invest.
apple is an exception.

This post is atually correct to a certain degree- there are many areas in products that Chinese companies still have have not established a reputation in and there are customer bases that tend to look at brands instead of specs- and China is indeed 'not there yet' in these some of these areas.

Hence, the constant takeover of companies to absorb newer and newer technology while buying the brand names of these companies at the same time.

.
india wont boycott Chinese stuff . its a poor nation with billion+ population they cant afford western products and quality of made in india products are too low.

.
Well Chinese here on forum were saying that India cannot do much, then why warn when you know we cannot do anything.
