Boxing champion Muhammad Waseem mulling surrendering Pakistani nationality

Didn't he just receive millions of rupees some months ago? some people are just greedy. Surrender your passport and get the **** out of Pakistan.

.
i am surprise by people supporting him for his decision.. he was not refugee b4 becoming a boxer.. he started small from Pakistan and never complain during his early years of winning and now when he became a champ.. now come all the proudness part and more.. and don't tell me he is not earning when he wins the fight, he just wants more from government... It was Pakistan who he represented as an identity and now champ wants to become American when he is a champ.. he should have left pakistan nationality in early years than it could be ok 4 him...

.
The Government of Pakistan should have a stipend scheme for players like him.As things stand he should cater for his own benefits and apply for whichever nationality he wants. Good luck to him.

Do you have any proof he received millions of rupees? Actual physical proof, not some statement by a minister. Too many times I've seen the government announce millions of rupees only to find that the individual in question never received a penny.

Because if he did receive millions, then surrendering your nationality for the sake of money would not be a decision I support, regardless of how much I sympathize with him.

Its the same story as of shah. The same damn story. Another generation yet the govt remains the same. Incompetent to the core. Statements yet nothing.

@Zibago we are from the most cursed. We ignore those that bring us pride, revere those that destroy our repute and make the same damn mistakes. We continue this and we will be undone.

Sponsorships and ads and govt rewards are endless for cricket players yet for other sports, they are treated worse than an enemy. Hated, scorned and looked down upon by the management and the govt.

In the threads of fate, these things are not forgotten but are woven in our destiny and its ripples and waves are far reaching.

Today we are hated by the world. Scorned and looked down upon and yet we throw away those that try to do something good for us and scorn them. Is our state really that surprising? God is not one who ignores things. Even the smallest of things come back.

Qadri. Hah! How about the years we spent justifying the deeds of those terrorists. The excuses for their barbarity.

Man, he needs to come here where boxing is a craze.

Is there a contractual obligation that the government did not meet? If not - shut up. You are the one who chose to be a boxer, if you want to make money you should have become a builder or a mechanic instead.

Such grants are announced but never materialise..

Be it Waseem,Shahs or the body builders, olympic runners and others who are forced to do labourer jobs and sell their medals to scrap dealers.... thats the bitter truth.

It seem as if he got some money. Hopefully his demands are genuine and he is not bargaining

The unbeaten World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver Flyweight Champion, Pakistan's Muhammad Waseem, has expressed disappointment again over the lack of funds and support, and said he is thinking of accepting offers from other countries and play for them.

The country's ace boxer announced his decision through a video message on Monday, saying he had no sponsors to fund his participation in the international boxing events and represent Pakistan — therefore he was thinking of switching sides.

Waseem, who hails from Quetta, told his fans that his upcoming fight for the WBC title might be the last time he represents Pakistan.

"I have an upcoming fight for the world title [in January 2018] and before that I have a fight in Colombia, but I am facing problems as I have no sponsors," Waseem said in the video.

"I don't want to stop representing Pakistan but unfortunately I am stuck," the boxer added.

He said that after his upcoming fights, he may consider taking the nationality of the United States or South Korea — and represent them instead.

He has repeatedly expressed disappointment that the government has not offered him any support despite his achievements.

Waseem, also known as Falcon Khan, said that when he won his first WBC title for Pakistan, the federal government and the Balochistan government had "promised to help him and commit to other financial help".

He added he feels "extremely disappointed that no one from both governments fulfilled their promise and did not even bother to call him".

Waseem said that in order to move forward as a professional boxer he needed sponsorship.

In July, Waseem won the World Boxing Council (WBC) silver flyweight title after defeating favourite Jether Oliva from the Philippines.

He maintained his title in October when he defeated Panama's Carlos Melo.

Waseem, Pakistan's only professional boxer, began his professional career in South Korea last year and won the Korean Bantamweight title on debut.

In August last year, Waseem had lamented that Korean promoter Andy Kim had sponsored and borne all his expenses instead of the Pakistani government.

“I’m a Pakistani, not Korean; [so] why is my government not providing me with the required patronage?” he had said.

However, after Waseem won the WBC Silver Flyweight Championship, the federal government had transferred a sum of money to Kim.

Last year, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had approved a grant of Rs30 million for the boxer as he successfully defended his WBC Silver Flyweight title after defeating Giemel Megramo.

The federal government, however, released only Rs24.675 million in March this year on the recommendation of the Inter-Provincial Coordination Ministry.

In 2014, the then Inspector General of Balochistan Frontier Corps, Maj Gen Ejaz Shahid, had handed a cheque of Rs50,000 to Waseem and gifted boxing equipment and exercise machines worth Rs0.7 million to the international boxer's club.

So he did receive some money but he still needs sponsorship, which is completely understandable actually. Is there any any part of this nation that still works? All our sports are in the same situation, except Cricket. I would help him but that sets a bad precedence. What's the point of private citizens sponsoring sportsmen that are representing nations, can the state please awaken from its deep slumber and do some actual work for once?
