Two nation theory is a failed one. It was not able to hold Pakistan together in '71.
Interestingly even after all the huffing and puffing by separatists of all sorts India stays one country. Quite a remarkable feat for a private movie industry!
What I find really amusing is that if your conclusion and reasoning is given any kind of weightage that would mean -- in inference -- Jinnah's two nation theory was weaker than India's movie industry and Jinnah didn't have any vision in front of likes of Dada Saheb Phalke who laid the foundation of Indian movie industry. Jinnah must be rolling in his grave . -- may be like this?
You might be surprised at the title of this thread, but I have found this the strongest string that unites India's multilingual, multicultural, multi-religious masses and a multitude of issues and problems.
Not a key contribution to economy. But it's not about economy at all.
Here's a demography of India's religions:
Bollywood is the opium of masses.
Hamzay
Conclusion: India doesn't have an ideology like the 'Two Nation Theory' that created Pakistan. So, India has to 'sedate her wild populations' with Bollywood. This is the cheap vision of this 'great country'.
Every now and then a kid comes straight from a modarssa or a school from Pakistan and learns the truth about India and dubious history they learnt.
This is your journey.
The Two Nation Theory struck India twice (1947 and 1971); Bengali Muslims believed in it in 1947 and they held it in 1971 till this day.
Actually we are not taught Sa-Re-Ga-Ma-Pa in our schools and how to shake our butt and sing like a nightingale.. so we are able to analyse things that are used to sedate a whole people.
We make more than 1000 movies a year and Bollywood contribution is only 200-250 per year.Number of movies about your country are just few in number and it is only Bollywood who dishes out war movies for hindi audience. For our regional movies in south and east, Pakistan is irrelevant. Yet our country is still united under pluralistic, secular republic guided by our constitution.
But, the whole point is that India is the nationalism of an idea. It's the idea of an ever-ever-land, emerging from an ancient civilization, united by a shared history, but sustained, above all, by pluralist democracy. That is a 21st-century story as well as an ancient one. And it's the nationalism of an idea that essentially says you can endure differences of caste, creed, color, culture, cuisine, custom and costume, consonant, for that matter, and still rally around a consensus. And the consensus is of a very simple principle, that in a diverse plural democracy like India you don't really have to agree on everything all the time, so long as you agree on the ground rules of how you will disagree. The great success story of India, a country that so many learned scholars and journalists assumed would disintegrate, in the '50s and '60s, is that it managed to maintain consensus on how to survive without consensus. --Shashi Tharoor (Ted talk)

Bollywood's power is so great that even our sworn enemies watch and dance on its songs.
It proves my point that Bollywood is sedation, opium for the masses
And it is being used as an Ideology to unite India.
Bollywood is definitely sedating our enemies and winning them over.
Pakistan and Bangladesh have set a precedence for those of Indian ethnicity and creed who want to secede from the clutches of Indian oppression.
Oh no, we don't watch these idiots that much who speak like jokers. We only watch Khans who speak good Urdu.
Bollywood is our weapon against Pakistan
And breaking Pakistan. You dance n our songs. It proves my point that Bollywood is sedation, opium for the masses
And it is being used as an Ideology to unite India.
