Hii guyzz , i have been waiting for this day for years to post my first thread on this site and the days is finally here, thanks to my onship duty which was shortened to 4 on 4 of from 6 on 6 of.
I thought that I should start my writing with my first thread on startup ecosystem and stories but then I thought Startup thread can wait and I would like share my views with pdf members (Indians and Pakistani both) on some issues. I am here to talk about Bollywood.
Yes Bollywood the most famous Industry of India which enhances and spreads India’s softpower in the world.
Bollywood started it’s journey 100 years ago as a mere industry and now as you can see it has became into juggernaut. It’s clout is all over the world from south asia to Europe, Americas to middle eastern, just you name it and Bollywood is their. In the past Bollywood used to be very revenue restricted industry, bollywood, Indian movies before had a limit to which they can earn money, a 100 crore crosser was a all time hit and many bollywood movies would suffer to cross 100 crores but in recent times from 5 to 6 years the trend has changed, every now and then you get every movie crossing 100 crores and limit of superhit movie has gone above 400 crores.
Before bollywood movies were not able to cross 100 crore in India but now we are talking bollywood movies cracking 100 crore from singlemost country. Before bollywood was mostly restricted to domestic country but now it’s a global phenomena. Just to tell you there are many more followers in Europe of bollywood as there are in India, Indian movies are recognised internationally but the noise is getting much more louder and louder day by day. In Asia Bollywood is the biggest Festival even bigger than Hollywood. I am from a profession in which I am away from India atleast for 8 months a year, whenever I am outside India I never feel that Bollywood is alien to me let that be in USA, Europe or in gulf countries, whenever I visit my friends in USA and when I see craziness about Bollywood on their head which even exceeds my craziness as compared to them i think that Bollywood is doing its duty good and making India proud. I suggest all of you to type 'Bollywood enters latin america' on youtube you will get the clearer idea of what i am talking about.
But this is not what I want to tell you about on this thread I just want to tell you about the quality of Bollywood movies. Before Bollywood movies were mostly made in genre such as romance, love, comedy but now it bollywood has started driving it’s car in other genres also. It has stepped into sci-fi, Action, Thriller and horror movies and trying to compete but I still know it has to do much on these fronts if it has to compete with Hollywood but as an INDIAN I am happy to see Bollywood is at least it is trying to.
Now I will tell you some names of the Bollywood movies which you should watch out for in the years to come
ABCD 2 ( now don't say it is a copy of step up because every dance movie is not a copy of step up), Phantom ( Action packed ), Drishyam, worlds most beautiful Aishwarya rai bacchan starrer 'Jazbaa' whose first poster got viral on twitter in just few seconds, prem ratan dhan paayo in which salman khan is playing a boxer, Bajirao Mastani.
Other than theses, movies which are coming in few years are Mohen jo daaro starring Hrithink, it will be much more like 10,000 BC movie, 'Paani' starring kristen Stewart and Hrithik this movie will be picturiesd in future 2050,
'Shuddhi', 'Shivaay' Starring Ajay devgn and Nicole Kidman and many more other actors from other film industry and it is said to set a new benchmark for money involved in movie producing, almost 300 to 400(3/4 of hollywood) crores are going get invested in this movie, also for which fast and furious action director is being hired,
'Immortals of Meluha' made by karan johar Trilogy movie based on the largest sold book in India of the same name, there is also a speculation that a hollywood producer has also bagged rights to make a movie on the book.
Krrish 4, Robot 2 starring aamir khan as villain, Ra one 2,
For people who like supermans you have got Stan lee made indian superhero 'chakra' coming up, Anurag Kashyap superhero named 'Doga', also Ranbir kapoor and Tiger shroff have their superhero movies lined up too and last but not the least and happens to be my most awaited movie of my lifetime for which I will do anything is the movie ‘Atharva- The origin’ now it is just a graphic novel but when the movie will be made it is going to be on par with franchisees such as lord of the rings and Harry potter. I will just suggest all the members to just see the trailer of this graphic novel on youtube. These movies make the perfect case to suggest that Bollywood is now going to get more global.
Like most people here i am also a admirer of hollywood films but i love bollywood too. I don't get much chance to watch movies in theater but whenever i get i go for bollywood movies and not hollywood movies, because those movies are best to relax and see on PC or laptop rather than going in thaters. Many members (mostly my senior Indian members) have criticized Bollywood and have their different opinions on Bollywood, I would like to answer those questions and my views on such criticism. Please take this as my personal opinion and I don’t like to offend anyone it is just my view on such issues
Why Bollywood don’t make realistic movies like Hollywood?
My answer-cum-opinion to this is that what is the real definition of the word ’real’ in your mind,
those who go to watch Hollywood movies they see it much more appealing, but if you are suggesting me that the fact where 'every now and then an imaginary superhero comes up, protecting the whole WORLD from evil’ is appealing and is so called ’real’ in your standards than i am sorry guyzz I don’t agree with you.
What i get from Hollywood is unrealistic stories and a fantasy world where you have superhero protecting world from bad guys with their flashy superpowers, actually now a days there is a trend of not having single superman but now a days there is a trend of having bunch of supermans ( Avengers ) protecting the world and also what I see is their hunger for sequels from fast and furious 7 to 8, 9, 10 and god knows. Also i am also sure there are many more supermans restored in the basket of hollywood in the years to come. Such movies are good to watch on laptops rather than in theater.
Why does Bollywood copy movies from Hollywood?
Yes i agree bollywood copy some movies from hollywood but if you want to evaluate a big movie industry like Bollywood with just handful of copied movies than i don't think you are doing justice. Let's just say bollywood copies 100 movies every year (which i don't think is the case that bollywood copies that many movies or even in its worse times it did or will do). But still let’s assume it copies 100 movies every year, Bollywood is >1000 movies per year industry so you still get 900 indian movies. So i don't think it is 'copying industry'.
I think this copying activity is also because we don't have good IPR policy which can keep a check on such copying, but as we have new IPR policy in the making don't worry your concers will be taken care of.
Why Bollywood don’t make it to Oscars?
As for the argument that Bollywood don’t make movies which are worthy of Oscar’s.
For that argument I have an answer.
Bollywood finds Oscar’s irrelevant to them.
Bollywood made very great movies in the past which were worthy of Oscars from Mother India to Lagaan but Oscars where never awarded to them, when you will go in history and try to find out or talk to any experts you will find that Bollywood movies like Lagaan and Mother India you will learn that they were on par with the respective Oscar awarded movies at that time, The last Bollywood Oscar awarded movies was Slumdog Millionaire that too because it had a foreign Director and producer related to the film.
Bollywood has their own Oscar’s which are their followers. Just to tell you why Oscars is irrelevant to Bollywood, in recently concluded cannes film festival an Indian movie premiered named ‘Masan’ in which Richa Chaddha is playing the lead, the movie got 5 minutes standing ovation on its premiere from audiences for which Richa chaddha and the director cried for such a great reception. That is what our Bollywood has achieved without Oscars. Oscars or no Oscars doesn’t matter to Bollywood.
Why Bollywood movies are all masala movies, dance and singing?
I am sure bollywood in the coming years will turn from masala movies to reality driven movies, as you can see in the past 5 years it is a much more global industry rather than a regional industry.
As for the critics who say that songs and dance is something in which bollywood should reconsider its approach. As for that, you can already see that happening in the movies which are coming out, now you get a song which is played in the beginning of the movie and then second song you get is when the movie ends and in the middle you get one odd song when it makes sense to have a song in that scenario. In the coming years i am sure you will get much more careful approach to songs and dances from bollywood.
I have seen my Indian members saying
Bollywood is no where our regional film industry and Bollywood doesn’t represent the whole of India?
Actually my friends it does represents whole of India because Bollywood is the same industry on which you were proud of when there were no regional film industry, Bollywood is the same industry which gave you stars like Rishi Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and many more, Bollywood is the same industry which never faltered in 1960 and 70 even though they were not earning more money, Bollywood is the same industry which is giving India a global recognition and spreading India’s soft power and Finally Bollywood is the same industry which never bullied any regional film industry and allowed it to flourish……… but despite of doing such a good work for India and serving India for so many years when I get to see some Indian members saying, Bollywood is nowhere in comparison to our regional film industry, Bollywood is disgrace to India, Bollywood is a Shit I feel very disheartened.
Actually it’s got to do with our feeling of being an ‘INDIAN’ rather than to do anything with Bollywood, we always tend to distinguish ourselves as south Indian, north indian, east Indian, west Indian or I am Delhiite, I am keraliite.
When NRIs like me are feeling proud as Bollywood is growing, I feel disheartened after seeing such a approach by my Indian members. I will tell you I also like many south Indian movies, as being a Maharashtrian i also like to see many Marathi movies but that doesn’t mean we should disgrace Bollywood. Actually when I see such statements I get “Every movie is good unless and until it is Bollywood” kind a feeling.

Bollywood made very great movies in the past which were worthy of Oscars from Mother India to Lagaan but Oscars where never awarded to them, when you will go in history and try to find out or talk to any experts you will find that Bollywood movies like Lagaan and Mother India you will learn that they were on par with the respective Oscar awarded movies at that time, The last Bollywood Oscar awarded movies was Slumdog Millionaire that too because it had a foreign Director and producer related to the film.
Bollywood has their own Oscar’s which are their followers. Just to tell you why Oscars is irrelevant to Bollywood, in recently concluded cannes film festival an Indian movie premiered named ‘Masan’ in which Richa Chaddha is playing the lead, the movie got 5 minutes standing ovation on its premiere from audiences for which Richa chaddha and the director cried for such a great reception. That is what our Bollywood has achieved without Oscars. Oscars or no Oscars doesn’t matter to Bollywood.
Why Bollywood movies are all masala movies, dance and singing?
I am sure bollywood in the coming years will turn from masala movies to reality driven movies, as you can see in the past 5 years it is a much more global industry rather than a regional industry.
As for the critics who say that songs and dance is something in which bollywood should reconsider its approach. As for that, you can already see that happening in the movies which are coming out, now you get a song which is played in the beginning of the movie and then second song you get is when the movie ends and in the middle you get one odd song when it makes sense to have a song in that scenario. In the coming years i am sure you will get much more careful approach to songs and dances from bollywood.
I have seen my Indian members saying
Bollywood is no where our regional film industry and Bollywood doesn’t represent the whole of India?
Actually my friends it does represents whole of India because Bollywood is the same industry on which you were proud of when there were no regional film industry, Bollywood is the same industry which gave you stars like Rishi Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and many more, Bollywood is the same industry which never faltered in 1960 and 70 even though they were not earning more money, Bollywood is the same industry which is giving India a global recognition and spreading India’s soft power and Finally Bollywood is the same industry which never bullied any regional film industry and allowed it to flourish……… but despite of doing such a good work for India and serving India for so many years when I get to see some Indian members saying, Bollywood is nowhere in comparison to our regional film industry, Bollywood is disgrace to India, Bollywood is a Shit I feel very disheartened.
Actually it’s got to do with our feeling of being an ‘INDIAN’ rather than to do anything with Bollywood, we always tend to distinguish ourselves as south Indian, north indian, east Indian, west Indian or I am Delhiite, I am keraliite.
When NRIs like me are feeling proud as Bollywood is growing, I feel disheartened after seeing such a approach by my Indian members. I will tell you I also like many south Indian movies, as being a Maharashtrian i also like to see many Marathi movies but that doesn’t mean we should disgrace Bollywood. Actually when I see such statements I get “Every movie is good unless and until it is Bollywood” kind a feeling.

I thought that I should start my writing with my first thread on startup ecosystem and stories but then I thought Startup thread can wait and I would like share my views with pdf members (Indians and Pakistani both) on some issues. I am here to talk about Bollywood.
Yes Bollywood the most famous Industry of India which enhances and spreads India’s softpower in the world.
Bollywood started it’s journey 100 years ago as a mere industry and now as you can see it has became into juggernaut. It’s clout is all over the world from south asia to Europe, Americas to middle eastern, just you name it and Bollywood is their. In the past Bollywood used to be very revenue restricted industry, bollywood, Indian movies before had a limit to which they can earn money, a 100 crore crosser was a all time hit and many bollywood movies would suffer to cross 100 crores but in recent times from 5 to 6 years the trend has changed, every now and then you get every movie crossing 100 crores and limit of superhit movie has gone above 400 crores.
Before bollywood movies were not able to cross 100 crore in India but now we are talking bollywood movies cracking 100 crore from singlemost country. Before bollywood was mostly restricted to domestic country but now it’s a global phenomena. Just to tell you there are many more followers in Europe of bollywood as there are in India, Indian movies are recognised internationally but the noise is getting much more louder and louder day by day. In Asia Bollywood is the biggest Festival even bigger than Hollywood. I am from a profession in which I am away from India atleast for 8 months a year, whenever I am outside India I never feel that Bollywood is alien to me let that be in USA, Europe or in gulf countries, whenever I visit my friends in USA and when I see craziness about Bollywood on their head which even exceeds my craziness as compared to them i think that Bollywood is doing its duty good and making India proud. I suggest all of you to type 'Bollywood enters latin america' on youtube you will get the clearer idea of what i am talking about.
But this is not what I want to tell you about on this thread I just want to tell you about the quality of Bollywood movies. Before Bollywood movies were mostly made in genre such as romance, love, comedy but now it bollywood has started driving it’s car in other genres also. It has stepped into sci-fi, Action, Thriller and horror movies and trying to compete but I still know it has to do much on these fronts if it has to compete with Hollywood but as an INDIAN I am happy to see Bollywood is at least it is trying to.
Now I will tell you some names of the Bollywood movies which you should watch out for in the years to come
ABCD 2 ( now don't say it is a copy of step up because every dance movie is not a copy of step up), Phantom ( Action packed ), Drishyam, worlds most beautiful Aishwarya rai bacchan starrer 'Jazbaa' whose first poster got viral on twitter in just few seconds, prem ratan dhan paayo in which salman khan is playing a boxer, Bajirao Mastani.
Other than theses, movies which are coming in few years are Mohen jo daaro starring Hrithink, it will be much more like 10,000 BC movie, 'Paani' starring kristen Stewart and Hrithik this movie will be picturiesd in future 2050,
'Shuddhi', 'Shivaay' Starring Ajay devgn and Nicole Kidman and many more other actors from other film industry and it is said to set a new benchmark for money involved in movie producing, almost 300 to 400(3/4 of hollywood) crores are going get invested in this movie, also for which fast and furious action director is being hired,
'Immortals of Meluha' made by karan johar Trilogy movie based on the largest book sold in India of the same name, there is also a speculation that a hollywood producer has also bagged rights to make a movie on the book.
Krrish 4, Robot 2 starring aamir khan as villain, Ra one 2,
For people who like supermans you have got Stan lee made indian superhero 'chakra' coming up, Anurag Kashyap superhero named 'Doga', also Ranbir kapoor and Tiger shroff have their superhero movies lined up too and last but not the least and happens to be my most awaited movie of my lifetime for which I will do anything is the movie ‘Atharva- The origin’ now it is just a graphic novel but when the movie will be made it is going to be on par with franchisees such as lord of the rings and Harry potter. I will just suggest all the members to just see the trailer of this graphic novel on youtube. These movies make the perfect case to suggest that Bollywood is now going to get more global.
Like most people here i am also a admirer of hollywood films but i love bollywood too. I don't get much chance to watch movies in theater but whenever i get i go for bollywood movies and not hollywood movies, because those movies are best to relax and see on PC or laptop rather than going in thaters. Many members (mostly my senior Indian members) have criticized Bollywood and have their different opinions on Bollywood, I would like to answer those questions and my views on such criticism. Please take this as my personal opinion and I don’t like to offend anyone it is just my view on such issues
Why Bollywood don’t make realistic movies like Hollywood?
My answer-cum-opinion to this is that what is the real definition of the word ’real’ in your mind,
those who go to watch Hollywood movies they see it much more appealing, but if you are suggesting me that the fact where 'every now and then an imaginary superhero comes up, protecting the whole WORLD from evil’ is appealing and is so called ’real’ in your standards than i am sorry guyzz I don’t agree with you.
What i get from Hollywood is unrealistic stories and a fantasy world where you have superhero protecting world from bad guys with their flashy superpowers, actually now a days there is a trend of not having single superman but now a days there is a trend of having bunch of supermans ( Avengers ) protecting the world and also what I see is their hunger for sequels from fast and furious 7 to 8, 9, 10 and god knows. Also i am also sure there are many more supermans restored in the basket of hollywood in the years to come. Such movies are good to watch on laptops rather than in theater.
Why does Bollywood copy movies from Hollywood?
Yes i agree bollywood copy some movies from hollywood but if you want to evaluate a big movie industry like Bollywood with just handful of copied movies than i don't think you are doing justice. Let's just say bollywood copies 100 movies every year (which i don't think is the case that bollywood copies that many movies or even in its worse times it did or will do). But still let’s assume it copies 100 movies every year, Bollywood is >1000 movies per year industry so you still get 900 indian movies. So i don't think it is 'copying industry'.
I think this copying activity is also because we don't have good IPR policy which can keep a check on such copying, but as we have new IPR policy in the making don't worry your concers will be taken care of.
