Boeing and Airbus Duopoly is over, when China's Comac comes into play

Microsoft and Intel are completely unrelated. Intel makes processors (hardware) and Microsoft makes OS (software). The skillsets needed to make them are very different.

I know. What I mean is that as majority of computers run on OS made by MS and have intel procesors, airlines around the world have been operating Boeing or Airbus for decades. All their operating procedures revolve around these 2 aircraft companies and also there is the 'comfort level' that comes with operating these aircrafts for a long period of time.

Russians has a much advanced aircraft industry, but countries like India who bought the military version of Illyushin or Antonov did not necessarily went for their civilian versions but rather sticked to Boeing & Airbus.

Does this aircraft uses Chinese or Western engines?

I guess time will tell. Apple had a very tough market to get into with MS but they did it. Maybe the Chinese can do the same I guess its up for someone to test the quality of these plains and make a name for it. besides I think it will be much cheaper than the other two (I couldn't read the whole post maybe the price is there but i couldn't catch it)

Is China selling more than Embraer in any category? Article is strange to say the l;east.

with more competitively priced products of the same quality,china can easily secure weak markets easily and quickly(like africa).
china can really make ripples,if it delivers aircrafts in a short period(i.e increasing rate of production).

i think you people need to find a better,stylish and more commercial name and logo for your company.

Then the analogy is wrong because Boeing and Airbus are direct competitors, not makers of complimentary products. You clearly do not have a strong grasp of logic, should get some GRE training.

Airbus or Boeing=MS or Intel

Not

Airbus=MS

Boeing=Intel

Or Vice Versa

I don't think Embraer is in the picture at all.

I admire their courage these years in the domination of Boeing and Airbus. But Brazil does not have the potential technical basis, or science fundermentals. it's obvious.

I didn't bother to dig deeper, but I might guess this Brasil firm is only an asembly plant of global product/parts, Comac is way different. It's like Brazil's ecomonic boom in 1970s, which is not sustainable. China's rise is on the level of all fields. If you compare China's boom with Brazil's, you would found one is change in substance, one is in appereace.

I hopeIndia is take China way, but you guys should worry you are getting Brazil way. Yet this is not looking down the latin american nation, considering their GDP is much ahead of India's.

Unlike China that is targeting heavy aircraft market, Embraer already has a powerful niche in the smaller/regional aerospace industry. Heard about the E series? AS per what Brazilians say, this is just the beginning. China is emerging as a strong competitor and their efforts are clearly visible. But the category that China is targeting and the category in which Brazil is at the top are totally different.

Are you kidding me? Embraer designs most of their own aircraft. We are talking about aerospace capabilities, not booming economies alone. Currently manufacturing is the strongest point of Chinese economy that too at immensely effective pricing, while Brazilian economy is based on a combination of relative modern tech and humungous export of natural resources that they have in their gigantic country that too with a small population.

I agree. But our manufacturing has to be strong. It is nowhere when compared to China's massive production and manufacturing (that too with lightning speeds) as our industries are obsessed with service sector excellence rather than manufacturing. I really respect the model Chinese have chosen for their massive growth. And the model is showing results.

Embraer imports most of their subsystems. It is totally different.

First of all congrats to China .But , it is not only China but several other countries which are gradually coming forward as far as commercial jets are concerned.The main players are Canada ,Brazil,Russia and Japan.Japan is a very interesting case.I always wondered why Japan which is one of the most industrialized nations on the planet does not manufacture it's own commercial jets.I recently read an article that both Mitsubishi and Kawasaki have planned a commercial airliner.Another player which is rising again is Russia .Russia used to make very good passenger planes and then gradually lost market share to western countries .But now they are back with the Sukhoi superjet .Isn't she a beauty

agree. there are other stronger players want get into market too.
however, the key difference between china and japan/russia etc is china is having a ready huge demostic market which the others don't.
windows at the time was not the best product(apple,IBM had better tech & products to offer)but microsoft had the best market strategy and successfully won the market and the rest is history...
i think china's big plane strategy is not only cheaper product but even importantly to fully utilize its huge home market advantage to grab market shares and then competes with B and A head to head in world markets in future. without home market one can hardly survive from B&A's(US & Europe) tough monopoly play.
india is having similiar home market advantange too.

the strategy is to grab markets first so the engine and sub-systems need to be from brand name, so yes, they are import from west.

High speed trains have been around for years. Playing catch-up yet again.

And yet none of these "around for years" technology has matched that produced by China.
