Boeing 737 Max crash the real story

Thanks Boeing for cancelling iran Boeing 737 max order .:toast_sign:
But honestly what I see here is not different from what Europe did with Airbus A320 .
And are you guys sure China won't do it in future with Comac.
Honestly it must be a complete independent organization which don't care about the financial aspect of the business that decide which airplane is safe which is not.

Forget jobs there is still chance of lives being lost because Boeing is going to do a software fix instead of news sensors and increasing the number of sensors.
737 is with many air lines now and doing a total sensor upgrade will require total call back of entire 737 and Boeing is doing hard lobby to evade that and this will cost Boeing billions. Trump tried his best to save Boeing and avoid this USA knew every thing about the issue and yet grounded fleet last. They are still trying to play with human lives with software fix.
I myself am an engineer and I am telling you that integration of more hardware will be almost impossible. In aircrafts, we do not have space, and every platform is designed with tight space constraints. Calling back or software upgrades are the only available options.

The persistent problem on this forum is the unwillingness to do basic research. It is not as if there are no public information available on what is so unique about this version of the 737 regarding the MCAS mod. Jumping to conclusion is another persistent problem, especially when it comes to the US. Aviation mishaps, especially when lives are lost, takes time to investigate, as in it can take yrs. So when there are technically ignorant doofuses with nationalistic passions, the inevitable result is an explosion of jerk-off threads about the same event.

An interesting read from Twitter regarding role of Software in modern aircraft

I agree with you here you have a valid point.

Please don't pay any heed to US damage control as well.

Boeing, FAA questioned about safety of 737 MAX safety system days before Ethiopian Airlines crash

Boeing and the Federal Aviation Administration rushed the approval of the security system in the 737 MAX and overlooked important flaws that may have contributed to the deadly crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia, current and former engineers allege.

An investigation by the Seattle Timesincluded reporters questioning Boeing and the FAA about potentially unsafe practices related to the approval of the controversial Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System -- the system that's been at the center of speculation in the Ethiopia crash investigation and the probe of the October crash of a Lion Air jet. The Times said its reporters were pressing officials at both organizations at the beginning of March, mere days before the Ethiopian Airlines crash that killed all 157 people on board.

And, in the days after the crash, distinct similarities have been found between the Ethiopian Airlines crash and that of a Lion Air flight in October 2018, which left 189 people dead. Both planes with 737 MAXs and used the MCAS safety system, which, in a bid to stop a flight from stalling above the clouds, pushes a plane's nose down if a safety sensor detects pushing the plane's nose up.

Numerous current and former engineers said that because of a lack of funding and manpower, the FAA was increasingly delegating elements of the MCAS safety approval process to members of Boeing, to scrutinize the safety of their own planes. In addition, engineers reported feeling pressured to approve the subsequent safety reports quickly in order to keep up with deadlines -- and especially to remain competitive with Boeing's rival, Airbus.

“There was constant pressure to re-evaluate our initial decisions,” one former engineer said, according to the Seattle Times. “And even after we had reassessed it...there was continued discussion by management about delegating even more items down to the Boeing Company.”

Initial safety reports said that the MCAS system would allow the tail to move 0.6 degrees at the most, which would allow a 5 degree nose-down movement of the plane. However, after the Lion Air crash in October, Boeing provided information about the MCAS to airlines for the first time, and indicated that the tail could move 2.5 degrees, substantially changing the degree to which the plane would make a nose-down movement.

Each time the MCAS is triggered, it can be overridden by a pilot. However, the MCAS can reset itself each time, too, which allows it "unlimited authority," one current FAA safety engineer said, according to the Seattle Times.

The Times also revealed that 737 pilots were not informed about the implementation of MCAS to their planes. Boeing decided that because the system was only supposed to operate in extreme circumstances, the pilots needed no additional training, and information about MCAS was not added to their flight manuals.

Black box data recovered from the Lion Air crash indicated the MCAS had reset itself 21 times, repeatedly pushing the plane's nose down.

Investigators also recovered the jackscrew of the Ethiopian plane, which moves the plane's tail horizontally, and found that it was in an "unusual" position, the Seattle Times reported.

The Ethiopian crash prompted dozens of countries and airlines to ground 737 MAX planes pending a detailed analysis of the safety features.

On Sunday, Ethiopian Minister of Transport said the "similarities" between the Indonesian and Ethiopian crashes would be "subject to further investigation."

In response, Boeing said the company "continues to support the investigation, and is working with the authorities to evaluate new information as it becomes available."

FAA is not fit to cert international standard aircraft. They serve American interest only. They shall be an international test center comprise of expertise from Europe, North America , Africa and Asia to cert all commercial aircraft.

There’s already a European one
https://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/easa-validates-737-max-9-certification-452942/
European authorities have validated the type certificate for the Boeing 737 Max 9, eight months after US FAA approval.

.
This happened with Dreamliner too. That plane too had too many issues and one major one was its lithium batteries heating up dangerously.

Boeing has become too powerful. It has its influence not just with FAA but also with Congress. It works on billions of dollars of military contracts.

This is corruption and it will eat away the core of American business.

If three hundred people had to die, why it did not happen in some European or North American country?

Before you call me insensitive, the action would have been more swift and meaningful than this vacillating behavior. Some Asian or African lives dont register that fast.

Completely disabling MCAS’ control over the aircraft’s stabilizers would be the only way to overcome that sensor failure in the current software version. That requires throwing two additional switches on the console and turning a trim wheel on the console manually to re-establish manual control.

So, to recap: A new and undisclosed software system, which exists to avoid the cost of retraining pilots, has a single point of failure which can kill a flight crew untrained on the scenario in under 60 seconds, but is completely survivable for flight crews specifically trained to recognize it.

Again, the supposed purpose of MCAS was to eliminate new pilot training requirements on the 737 MAX. Instead it eliminated 346 people.

. . .
Let's wait until one or two crash on mainland USA ... Then the comments of the US posters here will make for an interesting read ...
