Its all over High school Bangla 2nd paper book in the section of Origin and structure of Bangla language.
High School Texts are not composed by the writer of Ramayan. People in BD follow the psychology of the persons who rule the country. They just abide by this rule of thumb to make the rulers happy. There have been very little research on the subject, except by Dr. Md. Shahidullah, perhaps.

And many others like Muhammad Enamul Haque, Muhammad Abdul Hai and many other Hindu researchers, Not only they counted it they broke all the words to Prakiti Prottoy Sandhi Bicchhed - how the words formed is well known . It is not about following the ruler. Its Science related to language.

Although Bengali is an Indo-European language, it has been influenced by other language families prevalent in South Asia, notably the Dravidian, the Austroasiatic, and the Tibeto-Burman families, all of which contributed to Bengali vocabulary and provided the language with some structural forms. Dictionaries from the early 20th century attributed slightly more than half of the Bengali vocabulary to native words (i.e., naturally modified Sanskrit words, corrupted forms of Sanskrit words, and loanwords from non-Indo-European languages), about 45 percent to unmodified Sanskrit words, and the remainder to foreign words.[5] Dominant in the last group was Persian, which was also the source of some grammatical forms. More recent studies suggest that the use of native and foreign words has been increasing, mainly because of the preference of Bengali speakers for the colloquial style

It even says 45% unmodified pure sanskrit, 50% modified sanskrit and rest 5% is foreign like farsi. Thats pretty bold.

I am not sure origin of Bengali matters that much. As with any language it has many influences. Typical hindutva trolls making bizzare statements as if that somehow reduces the Muslim influence.

Bengali was patronised by Muslims as well as Hindus particularly in the turn of the 20th century as Calcutta gained prominence.

BDs take such things in their stride. We are comfortable with the history of our people and nation...... Indians don't get it.

45% unmodified pure sanskrit

Here you said of people who claim about 45% unmodified pure sanskrit. But, even the words used in Kopalkundola, Durgeshnondini, Rani Chowdgurani & other novels written by Bankim Chandra are modified Sanskrit. Also, many of the words in the Bishad Sindhu by Meer Mosharref Hossain are more modified and simpler form than it is by Bankim. So, how it can be that 45% of our words are unmodified Sanskrit ones even today?

Even these two modified and more modified forms could not continue when Sharatchandra came out with his epoch-making novels. He used the Bengali form that we even today commonly speak (Shuddho Bangla) in. His language is not overwhelmed with heavy Sanskrit, but full of simple Bengali words derived from many different languages, Sanskrit included. Rabindranath and Nazrul both used this form, and the former developed many thousands of simple Bengali words.

Bengali words are so different when we speak than when it is written in the books. The latter tends to be more Sanskrit-based, where many superficially created words are used. Well, I have no reason to oppose it. However, I stated only what I thought is the form of Bengali language. Pick up 1000 words at random in many sentences from a magazine and find out how many are Sanskrit-derived, please.
