@Jazzbot yeah she is right..... mubashir luqman will soon be doing a whole episode on this issue in khara sach.... they might be fabricating to make people believe its difficult or near to impossible to resolve but then they will overcome it giving people the signals look we did wat was a damn hectic task.... dont rule out arabs ....may be we see oil supplies to their frnd nawaz

iran Pakistan gas pipeline is also in swing ...... US was against it so was saudi but PPP govt has histrionically been good with iran also it was the ending time for their tenure so to give nation something to cheer about and gain votes they did so .....nawaz may change it in the favor of his allies .....this can be done by either direct cancellation or deliberate delays ......

What they did was, they didn't add any Magawatts to power grid in Punjab placing complete blames on Central Govt for creating all electricity mess and cashed it in elections.

The other thing they did, which Mubashir Lucman is going to expose was, they paid IPP's in Punjab to stop producing electricity at full capacity so the situation gets worse, people will become more angry at PPP and thus will eventually vote for N-League.

On the ground, the electricity crisis does exist, we didn't build any major dam in past 2 decades, didn't start any alternative power generation project (coal or nuclear etc) so there is major shortfall today. What they can do is force the IPP's to start producing electricity which was not deliberately working at their full potential. It will decrease the shortfall but it won't resolve electricity crisis, we'll see just a couple of hours difference in load shedding which is not sufficient.

Our main problem is the energy source for power generation, i.e. furn-is oil, the most expansive way of producing electricity in the world. On top of it, the oil we use for this purpose is imported oil which we buy in $$$ from other countries. PSO recently stopped oil supply to IPP's because they didn't pay PSO for Oil for several months and PSO is about to become bankrupt.. Even if NS is able to get Oil from KSA on soft loans or free of cost, it won't resolve the issue. It will be a temporary solution.

Unless we move to power generation using coal, or civil nuclear energy, this mess is not going to resolve. Money is problem for Coal projects and above all political will is required. And I am not sure NS will be able to beg and convince USA for civil nuclear energy tech.. So hard to believe they'll resolve this issue in 5 years, unless they do something drastic..

Just my 2 cents, lets see.. I'm a newbie in these stuff, I'm just replying on my general knowledge so pardon me if I've written something wrong here. May be someone with better understanding can shed some light on it..

IMO the priority should be to

1- Get the circular debt issue resolved and get the oil running.

2- make use of coal to the maximum, forget environmental concerns, just convert to coal.

This is the short term for a couple of years, a nuclear reactor will alao be completed by then IMO.

The only long term solution IMO is making dams, a very clean and cheap source, it will take time to build and operate, but it is a long term solution. Kalabagh, Bunji and Bhasha dams are need of the hour. Work on Bhasha has started and it is completed by 2019, Kalabaghs feasibility study has been done, a consensus needs to be reached. Maybe the PTI government can be persuaded (what is their stance on Kalabagh BTW?)...studies dor Bunjinare still going on...Kohala project, the studies are going on. Dasu power project as well. All these dams are in the 3000 to 4000 range, Bunji is 7100MW proposed, Kohala is 1200MW proposed I believe.

All these projects will be completed by around 2020-2025 time frame, by then our energy needs will be 40k MW! These projects are too late.

Remember, economy is linked to power, you get economy right, you get some cash, you buy oil and you run your power plants.

We are in a huge mess. Had Kalabagh been made, we wouldn't be seeing 18 hour loadshedding in Lahore. Musharraf should have done that, and had he done it, I would have praised him. He could have used his dictatorial powers. Now Sindh and PPP will create hurdles.

Understatement of the year: "We are in a huge mess." Oh yeah!
