As Pakistan intensifies its policy of 'a thousand cuts' by unleashing terrorists from its soil into Indian side with the intention of targeting military establishments, the defence preparedness of jawans has become the top priority.
Let's have a look at the defensive arsenal of security forces. Here is what they have as they get ready to fight Pakistan's 'deep state' inside Indian territory:
CONTAINERIZED WEAPONS SYSTEM
It is a rapid firepower support for combat outposts, patrol bases, forward operating bases and ports.
ENERGY GUM
Jawans need to stay alert for longer duration as the infiltrators and attackers wait for those moments of night when men on the vigil feel their senses weakening. To deal with this, they have caffeinated chewing gum that keeps soldiers alert for at least eight hours.
INFRARED (IR) PATCHES
These patches are affixed on a soldier's uniform to help differentiate between a friend and a foe as seen through thermal cameras.
HYDRAULICALLY ELEVATED PLATFORMS
The idea seems to have been borrowed from the ancient hunting days. These platforms are used to mount sensors or if need arises, the shooters. They function like a machan used by hunters.
FUSION CAMERAS
The jawans have cameras that combine infrared, day colour cameras, laser range finder, GPS and HD card slot for data storage. Nothing should go unrecorded.
WEAPON SIGHTS
The soldiers have upgrade kits to fit Piccatiny rails on the AK-47 and INSAS rifles. This improvement allows them to be fitted with weapons sights to accurately aim and fire by day or night.
LASER ILLUMINATOR
This equipment casts a high-powered laser beam to illuminate objects, animals or persons upto six kilometers. It is useful in neutralising terrorists fleeing after mounting an attack.
SMART FENCING SYSTEM
Fencing border is considered safe. But, keeping a constant manual vigil along the long boundary with a country, which is looking for an opportunity to push in infiltrators, is much easier said than done. Smart fencing system is equipped with seismic sensors buried in the soil which can sense any intrusion and relay back to the base.
WIRELESS MESH RADIOS
Jawans have wireless mesh radios that provide cost-effective and dynamic high-bandwidth networks over a specific coverage area. These radios can also relay video feed in HD quality.
SMART IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM
To check any unwarranted entry into a military base, the personnel are provided with identity cards with an RFID tag. These cards flash the identity of the person, who enters an installation.
