BJP on Monday made a surprise allegation that the weekend blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad were a conspiracy to divert attention from the 'cash-for-votes' scandal.

The party also claimed that the blasts in two states ruled by it also made it believe that there was something more than meets the eye.

"The blasts are a conspiracy to divert attention from the cash-for-votes scandal," party leader Sushma Swaraj said in a press conference in New Delhi claiming that the incidents took place just a few days after the government won the trust vote.

"These are not off-the-cuff remarks. I mean what I say," she added.When asked if she was pointing towards the Centre and alleging that the Congress-led UPA government had a role in the blasts, she said, "I have said what I wanted, it is for you all to interpret the rest."

The senior BJP leader also alleged that the blasts were an "attempt to win-over the Muslim votes which got divided after the pro-American deal pursued by the government."Swaraj claimed that the blasts and its locations had enough "circumstantial evidence" to support her charge.

"Attacks in two BJP-ruled states in a span of two days and within four days of the UPA government winning the confidence vote has some meaning and what I am saying is proved by enough circumstantial evidence," she said.She said absence of an anti-terror law like that of the POTA was the prime reason for the increased terrorist activity in the country.

NEW DELHI: An embarrassed BJP has disowned Ms Sushma Swaraj’s “the Congress-is-behind-the-serial blasts” conspiracy theory.

BJP leaders, who are livid with Ms Swaraj for taking the focus away from the government and the “lack of even a small residue of resolve” to tackle the menace, said the party will not use the issue for settling political scores.

BJP leaders said it was for the investigating agencies to fix the responsibility. “Our quarrel is with the government’s approach to the problem. Actions are long overdue and jihadis are ceaselessly planning atrocities against innocent people,” BJP leaders said.

Ms Swaraj’s outburst, BJP leaders admit, gave their rivals an opening to duck a scrutiny of their anti-terror track record. This assessment is not off the mark as the Congress on Tuesday continued to train its guns on Ms Swaraj. “Ms Sushma Swaraj should be tried for treason,” said Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed.

Reacting to the Congress’ charge, the BJP said that it will not allow the Congress and the Centre to shift the focus away from their handling of terror crimes. “The hostile invaders are having a free run. The government should not negotiate with and accommodate evil,” said the BJP.

The party cited the government’s handling of the Simi ban case to substantiate its charge. The Delhi HC had come down heavily on the Centre for not even doing the basic homework in the Simi ban case.

In the petition seeking extension of ban on Simi, the government’s counsel did not cite the involvement of the group in recent terror crimes. “You have registered 106 fresh cases. Some in Bhopal, some in Jaipur, others in Malegaon and Ghatkopar, but there’s no mention of FIR numbers,” the tribunal said while expressing displeasure about the ministry of home’s casual approach.

BJP leaders said the lack of leadership is coming in the way of the fight against terror. “The writing was on the wall. The investigating agencies have been talking about groups operating out of Maharashtra planning big strikes. But none of the investigations were allowed to be completed,” alleged the BJP.

And when we do such a story without names or even saying informed souces on condition of anonymity it dosnt carry much weight.

Gujarat Blasts: Sushma Swaraj Sticks to 'Conspiracy' Statement


July 30 (2215 hrs) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj said on Wednesday she stood by her allegation that the serial bombings in Bangalore and Ahmedabad last week were a “conspiracy by Congress to divert attention from the cash-for-votes scandal”.
Sushma Sushma created a political storm with her statement Monday that the terror attacks were a conspiracy to divert people's attention from the scandal over allegations of bribe offers to MPs to save the UPA government in the trust vote.

Another reason behind the blasts, she had cited, was an "attempt to win-over the Muslim votes which got divided after the pro-American deal pursued by the government."

The BJP leader asserted that she made the statements as a personal remark and that the allegation was not a part of the NDA (BJP-led National Democratic Alliance) briefing.

While leaders of the BJP and other NDA parties kept mum, Sushma Swaraj categorically reiterated she firmly stood by her statement.The Congress Party slammed her statement, describing it as “irresponsible”.

In Bangalore, eight bomb blasts ripped through the city last Friday, killing one woman and injuring seven. A day later, 17 bombs went off in Ahmedabad, killing 51 people and injuring over 200. Both Karnataka and Gujarat are BJP-ruled states.
