Baradar kept in Karachi ‘safe house’
Baradar kept in Karachi ‘safe house’ - DAWN.COM

KARACHI, Sept 22: Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, a former Taliban second-in-command released in Pakistan on Saturday, is being kept in a safe house in Karachi as regional powers debate his role in the Afghan peace process, sources said on Sunday.

Afghanistan sees Baradar as a respected figure who could use his influence among the Taliban to help coax moderate commanders to the negotiating table and convince warring parties to stop fighting after more than a decade of war.

There has been no official confirmation of Baradar’s movements.

“Mullah Baradar was flown to Karachi from Peshawar early on Sunday. He is being kept in a safe location in Karachi,” one Pakistani intelligence source told Reuters.

A government source with knowledge of the situation said separately: “He will not be sent to Afghanistan. He is in a safe house in Karachi. ... Everything will be decided between Pakistan, Afghanistan and the United States.”

The source said Pakistan decided to announce his release to coincide with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to New York. “The timing of his release was tied to his (Sharif’s) departure so that Pakistan is seen as doing all it can (for the Afghan peace process),” said the government source.

Baradar was once a close friend of the reclusive, one-eyed Taliban leader, Mullah Mohammad Omar, who gave him his nom de guerre, “Baradar” or “brother”, and still enjoys respect among the Taliban fighters.

Known as a pragmatic operator, Baradar is believed to be willing to play the role of a peace ambassador, having once reached out to Kabul to seek a peace settlement.

A source with the Taliban-linked militancy in Pakistan said that Baradar had been reunited with his family in Karachi, where he was arrested in a 2010 raid. “Our brother has been freed and it is our great victory,” the source said.—Reuters

a classic example, how noora is trying to use them as his credit & then you think he will achive anything doing that?

Protests held across country
Protests held across country - DAWN.COM

SUNDAY’S brutal attack in a church in Peshawar leaving at least 78 people dead and 120 injured sparked outrage across the country with protests in major cities and towns.

A demonstration by charged youths in Peshawar was followed by large-scale protests, some of them violent, in parts of Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Rahimyar Khan, Hyderabad and Quetta. In Peshawar, protesters placed bodies of the people killed in the blast on the G.T Road, blocking traffic for some time. They burnt belongings of police personnel deployed at the church for security.

Angry relatives of the victims smashed windowpanes of the Lady Reading Hospital in protest against absence of doctors and paramedics and shortage of beds and medicine. They said many of the injured died because of absence and negligence of doctors. In Karachi, members of the Christian community held protests in Issa Nagri and blocked parts of nearby Gulshan-i-Iqbal, one of the city’s congested residential areas.

A pitched battle between the demonstrators and Rangers and police personnel kept vehicular traffic off the road in the area for several hours. Security personnel used teargas and fired in the air to disperse the protesters.

Peaceful protests were held on Sharea Faisal near Gora Qabristan, on the National Highway near Malir Burf Khana, Natha Khan Goth, Taiser Town and Pahar Ganj.

Later, protesters gathered outside the Karachi Press Club and chanted slogans against the PTI-led government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Demonstrations were also held in Hyderabad and Nawabshah.

The protesters called for exemplary punishment to the perpetrators of the terrorist act and urged the government to provide protection to the Christian community.

Bishop Kaleem Jan held a special service for the victims at St Thomas Church in Hyderabad and termed the incident a national tragedy. He urged the community to remain calm and pray for the aggrieved families.

In Quetta, members of the Christian community took out a procession and their leaders said the government had failed to curb terrorism and protect the lives of citizens.

The protesters holding placards marched from Kasi and Zarghoon roads, set tyres ablaze, and held a rally at the press club after passing through various parts of the city.

They accused the Peshawar administration of not providing adequate security to churches.

Addressing the rally, Tariq Gul, Fazal and Fayyaz said the terrorists were not even allowing people to pray in churches, mosques and imambargahs, which was a great tragedy.

They said it was incomprehensible why innocent Christians were attacked when they had no role in government affairs.

They said they would not bow before terrorism and would stand with the nation in the fight against extremism.

The speakers demanded protection for churches and other places of worship in Balochistan.

In Punjab, members of the community blocked roads and thoroughfares in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan Gujranwala and Rahimyar Khan.

A large number of them converged at the Lahore Press Club, Charring Cross, and The Mall. Yuhanabad, the city’s biggest Christian locality on Ferozepur Road, was the scene of serious protests by people simmering with anger. Several stick wielding blocked both sides of Ferozepur Road by burning tyres. The metro bus route was also blocked, disrupting the bus operation.

nation getting united against unstoppble terrorism!
shame on those who still want to talk peace withe terrorists?
PTI + terrorist supportive JI should do something about it, or just give it up NOW, instead playing fool with the nation of thier fake peace talks theories?

Two wrongs don't make a right. Blood donation is a noble cause, however trying to gain political mileage over it at such a time is in poor taste.

Your perception is wrong perhaps in your country everything has become so political that you've to look at others from negative perspective.

Imran warns of fallout if talks not held with Taliban - DAWN.COM

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said that another all-party conference should be convened if the government wants to launch an operation in tribal areas.

At a meeting of the PTI’s central executive committee, he talked about the negative impact the killing of military officers in a terrorist attack in Upper Dir had cast on the prospect of talks with the Taliban.

At the same time, he warned that there would be fallout on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa if efforts to hold talks with the Taliban failed.

The meeting adopted a resolution, opposing what it called an undemocratic decision of the Punjab government to hold local bodies elections in the province on the non-party basis.

Mr Khan informed the CEC about the proceedings of the recent APC and said it might have been held to buy time for an impending military action “which will have critical repercussions for the country”.

Tasneem Noorani, a member of the CEC, presented a report about the alleged rigging and the PTI’s shortcomings in the general election.

There was consensus among the participants that the party had been robbed of its mandate through widespread rigging, including the “questionable role of returning officers and some members of the Election Commission of Pakistan”.

They reiterated their commitment to pursuing the demand for verification of voters’ thumbprints through the record of the National Database and Registration Authority.[/I]

shamefull! IK!

very sad to see innocent people dying for some one else problem.

It is a cycle you know - > send some bunch of terroist - > they will commit atrocities -> oponent will send army -> Local people will suffer --> show the local poeple suffering --> send more terroris.

Pakistan has to stop harbourig terrorist. your ISI ex chief said Haquani is a very good man.. but many in paksistn will say Inida is behind him.

-----------

But if the root cause for all these problems , as other say here , wrong interpretation of quran. then why cant there be a single uniform interpretation of quran. Can the world islamic council agrees to a peaceful morden interpretation ?

Every imam , televangelist etc etc are giving their own meaning. and apart from that, each arabic word has 10s and some time more than that meanings.

Dont know which meaning these terrorist will use.

The main problem is you can not question it to understand. you have to simply believe what ever the interpretation is. this will be the result.

Only thing is there is no place for this in 21st century. infact in few decades man will colonize moon and mars. what will the fanatics do..

Security plan soon for places of worship: Nisar
Security plan soon for places of worship: Nisar - DAWN.COM
523f8a3794a6d.jpg

PESHAWAR, Sept 22: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Sunday that a strong security plan for churches and other places of worship would be evolved in a few days.

Talking to reporters at Lady Reading Hospital after enquiring after the health of the injured of the twin church blasts, the minister said the security cordon of places of worship of minorities was being reviewed as terrorists considered them soft targets.

The federal and provincial governments would supplement and complement each other in this regard, he added.

The interior minister condemned the blasts in which 78 people were killed and about 176 injured and said the terrorists had nothing to do with any religion, cast or creed. The blasts in the church had been conducted by the enemies of Islam and Pakistan, he added.

He said that the federal government would bear the expenses for the reconstruction of the damaged church.

Chaudhry Nisar assured full support to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in providing best medical facilities to the injured.

He said the prime minister would visit the province soon after his return from the United States and hold a meeting with the quarters concerned to review the security situation.

He said President Mamnoon Hussain called him to express solidarity with the aggrieved Christian community.

The minister appreciated the level of tolerance shown by the Christian community after the national tragedy. He praised doctors for serving people in the most unfavourable conditions.

In reply to a question, Chaudhry Nisar said the government had opted for a difficult choice of holding talks with the militants for establishment of peace, yet it was taken in the greater interest of the country. “We chose a difficult decision”, war was an easy option to adopt, he added.

The interior minister said the decision to hold talks with the militants had been taken unanimously at an all-party conference, which had representation of all political parties and the military leadership.

He said the APC drafted the resolution carefully and did not use disputed words to make it result-oriented.

Chaudhry Nisar said that disputed decisions were avoided and the option of negotiations was selected.

He said all the parties should unite to tackle this national issue because it was not restricted to the PML-N, PPP, PTI, ANP, MQM and other parties.—APP

That's we all Pakistanis want to see. Hang some corrupt, incompetent & spineless politicians, judges, media people, NGO's & rented terrorists then see what happens & see how these people will work FOR Pakistan & we will also see SOB politicians, judges, NGO's & rented terrorist trying to leave Pakistan, all this is because of dajjal CJ, gadari & now IK & patwaris are part of it.

The only solution to save Pakistan is to give Pak Army & the Intel Agencies free hand & see what they will do for Pakistan. This Govt. has failed completely & they are paying people to post controlled polls in favor of their patwari Govt & we know these polls are filled with lies.

Why did you bring JuD in all this mess..????

What is Jundullah doing in Pakistan exactly, spreading love? I had posted a video about these rented terrorists but it looks like all who are raising question probably in rented Jundullah's support havent watched that video.

I am speakling about double standards: it might be in Afghan but again in the other forums people called them in some place that India is sponsoring him. read "Some". but your ISI chief has full praise for that man which Nato is fighting.

I have said, some common understanding and interpretation has to be stated for worlds good.. am i torlling

Ok if that is your intelligence and tolerance level then i am really sorry for you .
