Blast in Maharashtra kills 3, injures 12

Sorry read again. Whos government is defending this?

The government (UK)has defended its decision to give £1bn in aid to India, despite the rapidly increasing wealth of the emerging economic giant.

Did you just confuse AIDS the disease, with aid??:tongue:

what difference does it make if Maharashtra even does have a higher GDP than Pakistan? Maharashtra has a population of 122 million Indians, which is comparable to (more than half of) Pakistan's population of 175 million. And even Karachi has most of Pakistan's GDP as compared to the rest of the cities. Hence, your point is really moot. There are a lot of states in India that are in real dire shape, such as UP, Bihar; that have really high populations & very little economic development. Bihar's (103 million) & UP's populations (200 million) are comparable to Pakistan's populations (175 million) as well, but they are far more backward than Pakistan.

Pakistan's population: 175 million
Pakistan's GDP (nominal): $180 billion

UP's population: 200 million
UP's GDP (nominal): $109.77 billion

Going by your comparison of Maharashtra with Pakistan, let me compare Karachi with Maharashtra:

Maharashtra's population: 122 million
Maharashtra's GDP (nominal): 190 billion
Maharashtra's GDP (nominal) per capita: 190,000/122 = $1563

Karachi's population: 20 million
Karachi's GDP (nominal): $36 billion
Karachi's GDP (nominal) per capita: 36,000/20 = $1800

Also, Maharashtra is the top 3 states (after Bihar & UP) in terms of the highest poverty rates in India, far greater than the Pakistani national average, or even the national average of India (which is higher than Pakistan of course).

Iam talking about Nominal GDP, in terms of ppp Indian GDP is 5000 tn USD as compared to 400 bn USD of Pakistan..

You were just comparing Gujarat's GDP with Pakistan's.

Wow is UK,USA giving HIV to india? must be through the "tourism".

I read it..

India has the world's third-largest population suffering from HIV/AIDS. However, the estimated number of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections in India has declined drastically in recent years—from 5.5 million in 2005 to below 2.5 million in 2007. These new figures are supported by the World Health Organization and UNAIDS. According to the United Nations 2011 Aids report, there has been a 50% decline in the number of new HIV infections in the last 10 years in India

India sees 50% decline in new hiv infections: un report - Hindustan Times

India doesnt need desperate help there, unlike your economy.

How manipulative

Karachi's GDP $78 billion

Uttar Pradesh's GDP 110 bn USD

even though UP is not a rich state of the country...

Considering the GDP levels there between the two, it is a shame for UP. ;)

Funny you talk about UP and Bihar. They maybe be two of the most underdeveloped..........But STILL growing faster then Pakistan.

Uttar Pradesh is the second largest state-economy in India contributing 8.34% to India's total GDP. Between 2004 and 2009, Uttar Pradesh grew at 6.29% and is now quite close to the miracle growth norm (which is 7% by international norm). Most of the part of this growth was contributed in period of 2007-09 after Mayawati took the charge of Uttar Pradesh. She decided to promote the Lucknow region as another IT destination after Noida. Some IT giants like TCS have already started their campus in Lucknow since 2008-09.

The economy of Bihar is largely service oriented, but it also has a significant agricultural base. The state also has a small industrial sector. As of 2008, agriculture accounted for 35%, industry 9% and service 55% of the economy of the state. Among all the sector, manufacturing sector performed very poorly in the state between 2002–2006, with an average growth rate of 0.38% compared to India's 7.8%. Bihar was the lowest GDP per capita in India, although there are pockets of higher than the average per capita income. Between 1999 and 2008, GDP grew by 5.1% a year, which was below the Indian average of 7.3%. More recently, Bihar's state GDP recorded a growth of 18% between 2006–2007, and stood at 94251 Crores Rupees($21 billion nominal GDP). Between a 5 year period of 2004-2009, Bihar's GDP grew at a stunning rate of 11.03%. This makes Bihar the fastest growing major state. In actual terms, Bihar state GDP was ranked 2nd out of 28 states, ranking it next only to Gujarat.

Bihar & UP aren't involved in the Global War on Terror like Pakistan is. Despite UP having 20 million more people than the whole of Pakistan, it still has only about half the GDP of Pakistan.

population doesn't matter.

29 Mumbai India $ 209 billion | 18.978 million population
37 Delhi India $ 167 billion | 15.926 million population
61 Kolkata India $ 104 billion | 14.787 million population
84 Bangalore India $ 69 billion | 6.787 million population
87 Chennai India $ 66 billion | 7.163 million population
93 Hyderabad India $ 60 billion | 6.376 million population

These are cities in India.

data from 2009

And also the state of UP Uttar Pradesh's gross state domestic product for 2004 is $339.5 billion by PPP.
