Rescue teams have arrived at the scene and shifted the injured to General Hospital.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – At least eight people have been killed while several others sustained severe wounds in a blast at Lahore’s Defence Z block market today (Thursday).

According to details, the explosion occurred at an underconstruction plaza targeting Bombay Chowpatty outlet in the market.



Rescue teams and bomb disposal squad have arrived at the scene and shifted the injured to General Hospital while toll is likely to be escalated.



However, the nature of the blast is yet to be ascertained.

The security officers have besieged the entire area and launched an investigation into the matter whereas emergency has been declared at different hospitals.

Meanwhile, a suspicious man has also been arrested from the blast site.

Law enforcement agencies had evacuated the same market a few days ago over a bomb threat.

Earlier, federal government approved request of Government of Punjab to deploy Pakistan Rangers in the province for 60 days to eliminate budding terror elements.

The government moved a request to the federation after a suicide blast on February 13 outside Punjab Assembly claimed 14 lives including that of Deputy Inspector General of Traffic Police, Capt (r) Syed Mobin Ahmad.

For now, authorities are saying that the blast is because of Generator explosion but causalities are increasing which is indicating yet another terrorism involvement.

Z block DHA is 1 KM from my office, we did not hear the sound of the blast however the images we are seeing on TV show that it was not a mere Cylinder or Generator blast.

We have been hearing about a threat to Y and Z block markets since last one week however there was no additional security or police deployed. Now people will again start blaming the Army when it is again a failure of civil security services. This is again connected to PSL final.

It is a collective failure of all institutions. There is no question that LEAs in Punjab need to up their game --- the police is in dire need of a total revamp and restructuring with zero political interference.

Casualty count is not necessarily an accurate way to gauge the nature of a blast, especially in this case --- LPG cylinder blasts have killed just as many people in various instances over the past few years.

But, yes, this smells of a cover up --- or maybe it really was a gen-set/cylinder in or next to a restaurant.

Civil security is weak and army should not be blamed ISI should be blamed as its a premier intelligence agency of pak and should take responsibilty if its a terror attack...
