KARACHI:
Revolution in Pakistan like in the Middle East is inevitable and is approaching fast, but the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) will not allow religious maniacs to take over and impose tyrannical rule, said MQM chief Altaf Hussain on Friday.

He was addressing a large gathering organised by the Defence and Clifton Residents Committee (DCRC) and the Council of Professionals (COP) of the MQM at the DCRC lawn near Two Swords in Clifton.
Hussain urged religious scholars belonging to all schools of thoughts to sit together to review Clause 295 C of the Blasphemy Act and judge it on the touchstone of the Holy Quran and the authentic sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), he said.

He criticised the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for not taking notice of those who had showered rose petals on the assassin of Salmaan Taseer. He said that the PPP was considered a liberal political party, but its silence on the blasphemy issue showed that there was only one liberal party in Pakistan, the MQM.

Hussain ‘proposed’ two resolutions to the audience, which were passed unanimously by a show of hands. The first resolution demanded that the speech that Muhammad Ali Jinnah delivered to the Constitutional Assembly on August 11, 1947, be made part of the syllabus for all students, from class one to PhD level. He said that the speech should serve as a second national anthem that people learn by heart.
The second resolution said there should be no differentiating minorities from the majority in Pakistan. Hussain said anyone who had a Pakistani passport or ID card should be regarded as a Pakistani only.

He urged the youths and students of Defence and Clifton to show their solidarity with the MQM at their schools, colleges and universities. He said that he wanted a very strong MQM office in DHA and Clifton.
Sindh minister Faisal Sabzwari, former city nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, and the heads of the DCRC and COP also addressed the audience.

I've always liked the fact that MQM are free from this religious fundamentalism that many political parties like PML-N are known for.

I agree with Altaf Hussain whole heartily on this issue!

Wow !! Finally seeing some pakistani politician talking against blasphemy law..:azn:

But i thought MQM didnt have much influence in Pakistani politics except in Karachi:what:

Also MQM is most at risk from religious fundamentalists , thats why there is so much disturbance in karachi always

MQM is the MOST decent party right now along with PTI and APML.

Atleast MQM is not a religious FUNDU organization like PML-NAWAZ....Nawaz league clearly has strong links with takfiri terrorists like SSP and LeJ.

MQM also happens to be the ONLY party who has called for END to feudalism and MANY MANY MANY of their members are middle class and highly educated people who do not belong to any FEUDAL culture.

Much of the hype against MQM being "terrorist" and B.S. like that is OVER-HYPE and is always BLOWN up by lanatee parties like Nawaz and JUI.

I can assure u guys NAWAZ and PPP league has and have probably MORE terrorists in their parties than MQM.....Nawaz, JUI and PPP always use that "terrorist" card to malign MQM.

Look at Karachi during Mustafa Kamal's time and MQM's Mustafa Kamal transformed Karachi in his 5 years of rule! I would vote for MQM or APML any time. PTI is suspicious because bloody Imran Khan is ALWAYS ANTI-ARMY and always supports and speaks in favor of lanatee TTP and other terrorists A holes hiding in FATA.

Even Zaid Hamid said that Imran Khan is anti-army and supports TTP fanatics and tends to support their cause indirectly. Lanatee Imran was against SWAT operation, against operation in S. Waziristan and is even against Pak army's ops in Balochistan against RAW sponsored BLA and BRA. He pretends as if NOTHING is wrong and some how bastards like TTP, BLA and BRA are "masoom" and "mazlooom" people!

What he does not realize is that these bloody TTP, LeJ, SSP are the modern day kharijities as Dr. Tahir ul Qadri describes them and Pak army is on HAQQ for taking out these bastards! Just as Hazarat Imam Ali (A.S.) fought against these kharijities in his times, it is our duty as muslims to take out these modern day kharijites!

Well said. I had some doubts about MQM but I'm really starting to like them more and more. At the moment they are the only political party that seem to be taking a stand for Pakistan and addressing issues that need to be urgently addressed.

Altaf urges Ulema to evolve consensus

KARACHI: MQM founder Altaf Hussain has appealed to Ulema of different schools of thought to evolve a consensus over the blasphemy law in the light of the Holy Quran and Hadith and remove flaws, if any, in it.

Altaf was making a telephonic address from London to the residents of Defence and Clifton here on Friday. He urged the Ulema to evolve a consensus in favour of the 295C and said that late dictator Ziaul Haq had made this amendment to the blasphemy law.

The MQM chief said if anyone says he is a Muslim, then how can he even think of doing anything against the teachings of Prophet Muhammed (SAW). He assured the Ulema that the government was not making an amendment to the blasphemy law and urged the religious extremists not to politicise the issue.

Altaf urged people from different walks of life to evolve a consensus over the blasphemy law and remove all the reservations in this regard by consulting the Holy Quran. Referring to the Pakistan People’s Party, Altaf said they called themselves a liberal party and asked as to why they did not raise their voice against the killers of former governor Punjab Salmaan Taseer. He said the petrol prices were being raised and petrol pumps were closed. Such things were paving the way for a revolution in Pakistan just like the Middle East, he added.

Altaf said the MQM was against all kinds of violence, either political or religious extremism, and believes in giving equal rights to each and every citizen living in the country. He said the MQM was a party of the middle-class people. It is for the first time that Altaf addressed the residents of Clifton and Defence. He asked the residents of the areas that he wanted a force of strong youth from there.

A resolution presented by Altaf Hussain was unanimously passed, which demanded that the speech made by Quaid-i-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah in the Constituent Assembly on August 11, 1948 be included in the courses from Class I to PhD level. He also demanded that another national anthem be made from the speech of the father of the nation. Altaf said that each and every person living in the country after 1947 holding a passport and national identity card had complete rights as a citizen.

MQM will protect Pakistan? How about they start by protecting Karachi from all the target killings, robberies and murders first?

I'd start taking Altaf a bit more serious if he was actually present in Pakistan. Nobody threatens him anymore, why doesn't he come back? He's afraid of his own people and by people I mean the people of Karachi.

Yeah right! Addressing issues all the way from Londond UK, that's very "patriotic".

At least he's addressing the issue. All the other politicians are hijacked by the mullahs/religious fundamentalists and are sitting silent while people are getting killed for speaking their views or being Christian.

The only party that has openly challenged mullah extremists. Only party that have vowed to finish off feudalism. MQM members don't hold any fake degrees and don't come from huge palaces. They are the educated middle class folks that actually understand the public's pain. The only truly secular party in Pakistan. Only ones to have openly condemned attacks on Ahmadis.
I remember Altaf Hussain saying he wants to build a church, mosque, temple, gurdwara all beside each other.

I thought this guy only does nautanki and drama. But at least in this case he is less afraid to tell what he thinks.(well he could have said he opposes blasphemy law, but that would be careless)
