WASHINGTION: US State Department says the case of an 11-year-old girl arrested in Pakistan on charges of blasphemy is “deeply disturbing.”
According to a transcript of the press briefing, State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland said that they are calling on the Pakistani government to have the investigation into the matter in a transparent way.
In response to a question, Nuland said that they welcomed President Zardari’s statement on the matter as well as the directive to the Interior Ministry to look into the case.
“We urge the government of Pakistan to protect not just its religious minority citizens, but also women and girls.”
When asked about the blasphemy law, Nuland did not respond on how the law compared to other such laws.
“But as a general matter, concerns that in this case, what is being touted as an abuse or an intentional act for religious purposes may, in fact, have been something else.”

Pakistani politicians have no shame, let alone any capacity for moral leadership.

Whether it's Mukhtaran bibi or this girl, they will make noises while the worldwide spotlight is on them. but will sink back into their old apathetic ways and mutual petty squabbling as soon as the attention shifts away.

We are shameless people, we allow our problem to discussed world wide. This is because our leadership are bas$$$d.

This kind of incidents (Blasphemy, minority execution, Caste discrimination, rape etc) must be taken with high priority.

Perhaps this time you shouldnt dump all politicians in the same basket.

Im happy enough to bag IK when i think he is wrong so only right i also point out when he deserves credit.

Leader of political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and former international cricketer, Imran Khan, tweeted: “Shameful! Sending an 11yr old girl to prison is against the very spirit of Islam which is all about being Just and Compassionate.

If Imran hadnt supported the girl you probably wouldnt have heard a peep from anyone else.
