Blackwater's Pakistan mission (and related news)

You know when the Benazir Bhutto a puppet of the West and a highly westernized person returned to Pakistan to run in Pakistan's 2008 elections, she requested Pres. Musharraf to allow her to use Black Water Security Mercenaries to protect her inside Pakistan!!!

She wanted to allow this highly notorious blood thirsty mercenary group with strong links to the US State Dept. to operate inside Pakistan under the disguise of protecting her and her inner circle.

Thank God, Pres. Musharraf the patriot he strongly DENIED her request. He refused to allow Black water in the country and denied any legal permit for them to operate in Pakistan's territory-ground, sea, air, and more.

Also who has asked Black Water to operate inside Pakistan? Must be the US. This way the US can interfere and violate Pakistan's sovereignty, all while claiming the Black Water agents are not US Soldiers so the US Army cannot be really responsible...

If you hire these Black Water Mercenaries you are 100% responsible, in my view and in common sense.

Pakistan should send a strong message to the US State Dept. and to Pres. Obama.

I hate it when people say the word 'Westernized' please define this bullshit term and define the ideology in your words and at the same time tell me how you intend to use this in a negative context because when people say westernized to a Pakistani guy is he suppose to take that as an insult? and if so why!!... Also can you please enlighten me as to what does the term 'westernized' represent in Pakistan and what are the 'westernized' ideals and its negative consequences?

Let me make this clear, Benazir Bhutto clearly said on American television news that she would allow US and NATO troops to operate within Pakistan's tribal region. She said this is cooperation between Pakistan and US.

When she came to the US before and during her election she hit the American media circuit and talked about allowing further US intervention in Pakistan, besides the drone strikes, she was willing to allow US ground troops to operate within Pakistani soil.

This is why the West particularly the American media and the Neo Cons of this country loved her so much because she was willing to compromise Pakistan's sovereignty at their demand. Bush also supported this plan.

We don't need her nor anyone who steals from the State Bank of Pakistan. Corrupt Politicians should be punished.

***Let's return to the topic.

If so why many pakistanis still believe that Mr.Zardari won the election because of the sympathy of pakistanis towards Bhutto. If u said is true, I dont see any reason why Pakistanis should be so sympathetic towards Zardari. Bring some light on that issue then...

Watch the documentry 'Iraq for Sale'. It has a whole lot on Black Water and its controversial acts in Iraq and its ultimate expulsion from Iraq.

A point to note is that it was tried in court for allegedly smuggling weapons into Iraq and giving to Kurdish Rebels. Dont know what became of the trial, FBI took it over.

The CEO of Black Water, Erik Price, has known family ties with the Bush family. And has also interned at the White House during Bush's regime.

There is also an unconfirmed report that the mysterious people moving boxes into Mariott just before the Mariott blast in Isl were Black Water personal.

One more thing Black Water has been renames to Xe since long.

Eric Prince was also once a navy seal. He sold his father's business and started black water.

US plans for bigger presence raise eyebrows

By Baqir Sajjad Syed
Dawn, Saturday, 01 Aug, 2009 | 10:05 AM PST |

ISLAMABAD: The US plans to have a bigger presence in Pakistan in the pursuit of its strategic interests in the region have raised several eyebrows in Islamabad.

The two most obvious indications of US intentions are the upcoming large-scale staff surge at the Islamabad embassy, which includes hundreds of marines, and the massive expansion work at the embassy premises.

The Americans intend to spend about $1 billion for the upgradation of their Islamabad presence, including an expenditure of $405 million for the reconstruction and refurbishment of the main embassy building; $111 million for a new complex for accommodating 330 personnel; and $197 million for constructing about 250 housing units.

For this purpose the American embassy has acquired about 18 acres of land for a meagre Rs1 billion, courtesy of the Capital Development Authority. The CDA had recently, in another transaction, sold just six acres of land for Rs6 billion. A Turkish firm has already built a 153-room compound for the embassy.

The upcoming fortress-like embassy is meant for accommodating close to 1,000 additional personnel being sent to Islamabad as part of the US administration’s decision to increase its staff in Pakistan. The new staffers would augment the 750-strong American contingent already based in Pakistan against a sanctioned strength of 350.

What appears to be more alarming is that this staff surge would include 350 marines.

Additionally, the Americans are pressuring Islamabad to allow the import of hundreds of Dyncorp Armoured Personnel Carriers.

Jonathan Blyth, director of external affairs at the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations in Washington, in a media statement justified plans for the greater footprint in Pakistan, saying they were necessary for meeting future requirements in view of the ‘greater commitment shown by the Obama administration towards Pakistan’.

Deputy Chief of US Mission in Islamabad Gerald Feierstein told Dawn that upcoming large-scale programmes needed more staff, but quickly added that nothing was final as yet. Others in Washington are justifying the expansion of the embassy on security grounds.

Despite all these explanations, the situation remains puzzling and is definitely straining relations between the US State Department and the Foreign Office in Islamabad.

Are these arrangements being made just to cater for the enhanced security needs of the American embassy and their diplomats based here, or are they aimed at micromanaging Pakistan? This is just one question nagging Pakistani officials as they warily scan the developments and insist that there is something more than what meets the eye.

Some of these reservations were expressed by former foreign secretary Shamshad Ahmed Khan. He told Dawn recently that indications were very clear that America wanted to ‘remote-control’ the region from Islamabad.

‘The US is eying a long-term presence in the region to protect its interests and Islamabad is an ideal place for that purpose technologically, diplomatically and personnel-wise.’

Another former diplomat said he saw no justification for such a huge US presence in Islamabad. ‘Clearly these are people who would be coming under cover of diplomatic assignments for covert operations that would be detrimental for Pakistan’s security interests.’

I don't see what is alarming about the US Marines. Marines always protect our embassies, no matter what country our embassies are located. Today's world situation would require a large marine force for protecting our embassies.

for the size of the compound located in a terrorist hot spot the marine size is about right. I will wager to a lot of the extra compound will be for the housing all embassy personnel and their families including marines.

Very interesting reading. The US pursuing its 'Strategic aims in the region' with 300 marines brandishing shining new brickwork from a renovated embassy building!!!!
A great piece of investigative journalism by a seemingly out of work scribe who doesnt understand half the words he uses. Unfortunately, we also have more than our fair share of these sensationalist pests.
BTW, I assume the APCs are for Afghanistan or may be gifts to the Pak Army. I have never heard of any one carrying out covert ops in a major city using APCs. Maybe the 'retired diplomat' has.

Agreed, all embassy staff, families and marines would be housed on the embassy compound. It makes perfect sense...
