Thriu is highest respect either person property or thing. that is why it is used every ware instead of sri (Sanskrit word).
ஶ்ரீ/ശ്രീ or Sri is very much used in Tamil.
E.g. City of Srirangam, Srirangapatna etc.
Srirangapathan = Sri+Ranga+Patna (City blessed by the color of Lakshmi). You will notice all the three root words are Sanskrit. Ranga = Rang (colour) and Patna = Patna (city/capital of bihar) in Sanskrit and Hindi.
Sri is the name of Lakshmi.
Both Sri and Tiru is in common usage in both South and North India. E.g. being State of Tripura i.e Tiru+Pura.
Tiru is never "property or thing". It is added before name of city the same way "Sri" is added before Rangam or Rangapatna.
