BJP receives Rs 2.5 crore donation from beef exporters
The Bharatiya Janata Party, which had strongly opposed killing and exporting of beef, has received donation to the tune of Rs 2.5 crore from the top beef exporters in the country, according to the contribution report submitted to the Election Commission.
The documents revealed that during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls campaign, the saffron party accepted around Rs 2 crore from Frigorifico Allana Ltd, Frigerio Converva Allana Ltd and Indagro Foods Ltd. All the three companies are subsidiaries of Allanasons Ltd, a front-runner in beef export.
Besides this, Frogorifico Allana Limited gave another Rs 50 lakh to the party fund. All transfers were made through Vijaya Bank.
Allanasons Ltd claims to be "the World’s Largest Producer and Exporter of Frozen Halal Boneless Buffalo Meat dominating the buffalo meat exports market in India."
As per the Section 29C of the Representations of People Act, 1951, political parties are bound to submit details of donations exceeding Rs 20,000 to the Election Commission. BJP received a total of Rs 437.35 crore as voluntary contributions from donors in 2014-15.
Addressing a public Rally in April, 2014, Narendra Modi had termed the beef export as Pink Revolution.
