There are like 10 million RSS members. You cannot generalize based on one person. Study a little about Hindu nationalism by S.P Mukherjee, Veer Savarkar, Madan Mohan, etc.

See I will try to give you a shortened version of the answer (sorry I am on my mobile).... RSS as an organisation has like 55 other branches, most which have nothing to do with preaching Hinduism/ Conversions/ etc. Some are targetted at rural/ tribal areas where for decades, due to naxalism/ ignorance, people were lured by money by the American missionaries. Now because of the thousands of schools/ colleges/ institutions by th BJP governments backed by RSS (in MP/ Chhatisgarh), around 90% of these tribals are back to their original roots/ religion. Then there are some organisations who are only involved in welfare of communities/ relief during floods/ natural disasters, etc.

As with any institution with 10 million people, then there are religioUs extremists (aka Hindu version of Owaisi and all). Being persecuted under Muslim rulers/ British etc, they go overboard and target the current minorites who have nothing to do with the past.

But consider this, after 2002, how many Muslims are killed in Gujarat in the last 14 years? Almost 0..... If everytbody in RSS is what you sday, then having a BJP government for so many years, there should have been mass scale conversions and persecution. But infact, Gujarati Muslims are the most economically prospered bunch in India. It was infact Modi who curbed the extremism of some segments of RSS.

Basically, there are like 1000 statements from RSS members which are postive and the so called "secularist" statements. But 1 statement by someone which is a bit controversial, next day it amkes headlines on NDTV/ CNN-IBN, etc.
