Two new 777-300ER aircraft to join fleet

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has made a US$ 118 million pre-delivery payment to the aircraft manufacturer Boeing Company last week for procuring two new 777-300ER aircraft.
"As we have made the pre-delivery payment, we are expecting to get one of the aircraft by end of 2013 and another by the first quarter of 2014," Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Faruk Khan told BSS Thursday.
The minister said the pre-delivery was transacted between Bangladesh Bank and state owned Sonali Bank in the US on November 15 last. Including these two airplanes in the fleet, Mr Khan said Biman's ageing DC-10s will be phased out.
"These two new aircraft will help us to maintain the flight schedule as well as to improve passenger services," he said adding the two new aircraft would also help reopening of flight between Dhaka and New York.
With the joining of these two new aircraft worth $308 million, Biman's fleet strength will increase to 18, Biman sources said.
During the reign of the last caretaker government, Biman signed a deal with Boeing for procuring 10 aircraft by 2019 at the cost of $1.3 billion with the aim to make the airlines profitable replacing the age-old fuel-guzzling fleet.
As part of the purchase deal, Boeing delivered two new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in October and November last year.
Biman has named one Boeing 777-300ER 'Palki' and another one 'Arun Alo'. Powered by twin engines and holding 419 seats in two class configuration, the aircraft are now operating on different routes to Europe.
Apart from these four Boeing 777-300ERs, Biman would procure two Boeing 737-800s in 2015 and two Boeing 787-8s in 2019 and another two Boeing 737-800s in 2020.
The 777-300ER brings new twin-engine efficiency to the Biman's long-haul fleet. The aircraft is powered by General Electric GE90-115BLs, engines.
According to Biman, it produces 22 per cent less carbon dioxide per seat and costs 20 per cent less to operate per seat.
The selection of aircraft is highly dependent on multiple factors:
1- Network expansion plans
2- Route planning
3- Manpower and ground resources
4- Existing infrastructure on ground
5- Strong economic foresight into expansion plans with definite and viable alternates for business expansion or consolidation (in case of multiple sub-airlines in a group company).
If Biman can commit a guranteed business and network expansion with profitability (basically a business plan report) along with a good set of strong sale and lease bargaining, it will be able to pull any aircraft purchase deal in its own favor.
But it is almost pathetic to see how South Asia's airlines operate more like Government's baap's property rather than proper businesses giving returns.
Only Sri Lankan Airlines function like a professional airline. I have traveled in all south Asian state carriers (except PIA) and only SL is genuinely much better off in terms of airline management and customer friendliness. Guess Emirates managing its stake for three years weeded out all the rubbish practises in the airline.

Its not that he is better, just a little less corrupt. He took money but used the rest for development but here, they take money from any place they can find.Well to be honest, you need to increase your employees/aircraft efficiency rate which is a pain in the *** with government owned airlines.
Air India's is a horrible 734 employees per freaking aircraft!
The guy also did a lot of corruption and had numerous cases against him.
