Billions in US aid never reached Pakistan army

Interesting that the argument now is that instead of 'diverting' the money towards purchasing conventional arms for the military against India, the money was spent on 'subsidies' and civilian programs.

So does this then negate the entire propaganda of the Indians and some in the US, of the military 'usurping' all the US aid money and using it to boslter its capability against India? Hey, accordng to this article, the leadership was using the money to benefit the common man on the street!

Well, Pakistan is a soverign nation.

There is good reason to belive that Pakistan is fighting the taliban for its own secuity and National Interest and it is NOT hired by the US to fight the taliban.

They why would pakistan need US money to rehabilitate its own people. Does not pakistan own its soldiers and their family ? Does pakistan need US money to take care of those who have made the supreme sacrifice in defeating the Islamic terrorism.

Such a statement from an Officer of General level is not in good taste.

Pakistan is fighting a war albeit with constraints. This has been the longest war fought by Pakistan. It has cost Pakistan tremendously in economic terms and also in terms of loss of men and material. This is something that should be understood by all.

Pakistanis are not even complaining about the losses, but when every Tom, Dick and Harry starts talking about misusing the aid, they should find their bearing first, because they really have no idea where the money has been spent. Musharraf did not line his own pockets with this money which by the way is Pakistan's own money (all CSF funds are reimbursements!!!!). It is money for resources that have been used up by the coalition in Afghanistan and to finance Pakistani operations in support of the Coalition effort in Afghanistan.

The actual US aid was a paltry $1.5 billion of the $6-8 billion that the associated press writers are so puzzled about.

So please spare us the talk about "not in good taste". What is not in good taste is that people are dying on the Pakistan side and you are telling us that we did not spend our own money the right way. Who the hell are Americans to tell us that we cannot spend our own money where we want to? We have all the right to move the money around as we feel appropriate. You have a problem with it then don't ask Pakistan for logistics, POL and transportation of your assets.
