What's new

Bill reintroduced in US House to terminate designation of Pakistan as Major non-NATO ally 1/4/2021

It was a designation in paper only. There were no benefits for Pakistan in it.

However, its interesting how stupid the Americans think the world is. The Haqqani network does not need to use Pakistan territory and become conspicuous by crossing international border, if it was ever needed. Even in those days when allegations were levelled against Pakistan, taliban controlled a sizable territory in Afghanistan. Now with peace process in place, Taliban are not fighting anymore so even if they were crossing border for arguments sake, they are not doing it anymore.

Yep the Indian media literally lies the moment it opens its mouth.
am more surprised at members here who didn't verify the news before commenting .... :coffee:

.
It was pulled informally by the Obama administration. Even if the OP is fake news, designation hasn't been relevant in years. Break up started in the 90's to be honest.

.
I hope they will terminate this status. in the long term, they will again come back and ask for our help. we must not help them again. stay away from USA.

A lot of the people commenting on this thread don’t have the slightest clue on how US politics works, especially how congress works.

Anyways, this only shows the importance of having a well funded lobby machine. The representative who came up with this bill probably did so at the suggestion of a lobbyist.

Since coming to power in 2017, Andy Biggs has had only 4 bills that he introduced that became law. All 4 of these bills were noncontroversial and enjoyed cross party support. This latest bill is quite radical and has zero chance of gaining any traction.

The Indian media is promoting this non news item for obvious reasons. No one is paying attention to it in the US or even among Andy Biggs’ constituency.
India is most probably behind the move. US Congress is influenced by lobbyists and that is how it works.

In USA, there are other important things to be done at the moment.
So stay cool.

This Mormon Congressman is a member of the Republican Hindu Caucus.
He was one of only 12 congressmen to vote against extending medical benefits to victims of 9/11. He seems to be a very fringe person.

Can someone with time on their hand dig deep into this...apparently i cant find anything concrete on this....
If it turns out to be false propaganda, it will allow us to ban Indian media reports altogether on the forum

do we know when this bill was tabled?
It has been introduced again, it is that same bill.

Al-hamd-o-lillah, Subhan-Allah. Countless thanks to USA to eject us one more notch towards self esteem/self reliance/self sufficiency.

.
Nothing is gonna happen. It doesn't have the support it needs to get through.

.
It also seeks a presidential certification that Pakistan has taken steps to demonstrate its commitment to prevent the Haqqani Network from using any Pakistani territory as a safe haven and that the Pak government actively coordinates with Afghanistan to restrict the movement of militants, such as the Haqqani Network, along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

:D

I actually laughed reading this. These so called bills, are they are not first scrutinise by American state institutions and their establishment before they are even made public? Taliban/Haqqani network are in talks with America for Afghan peace as we speak. Zalmey Khalilzad was in Pakistan just yesterday or this purpose!

.
The bill is bull$hit and will go no where fast.

.
You can blame HH for that.
US policy makers have an affinity for snake oil salesmen like Ahmed Chalabi (Iraqi academic and politician who pushed for sanctions and the invasion of his own country, Iraq) and Hussain Haqqani.

That said, whether policy makers in the US are so dense as to be taken in by these 2-bit intellechawals OR they boost the profile of these snake oil salesmen when the time comes to help push whatever foreign policy goals they have, is debatable.

Take the example of former US Congressman Dana Rohrabacher - he lead all sorts of congressional hearings and delegations & conferences with so called Baloch, Sindhi, MQM-Altaf 'dissenters' based in the US & Europe. He was particularly prominent during the years that the US was scapegoating Pakistan over its own failures in Afghanistan and you had op-eds and 'analysis' attacking Pakistan every day in the US & EU media/think tanks.

That whole propaganda machine against Pakistan suddenly went largely silent, likely because the US needed Pakistan to negotiate an exit out of Afghanistan, but the US will continue to trot out various other 'Dana Rohrabachers', as need be.

.
Yawn ... how many times are these idiots going to introduce yet another bill?
