Congratulations, SCHOLAR!!

----------------

PATNA: A student from Super 30 in Bihar, who is a son of a low-wage earner, was awarded a scholarship by a Japan university for pursuing higher education.

Super 30 is known for providing free coaching and assistance to underprivileged students to help them crack the entrance for prestigious IITs.

"Abhisek Gupta has made it to University of Tokyo for international programme on environmental sciences at College of Arts and Sciences, Komaba, Meguro-ku, Tokyo," Super 30 founder director Anand Kumar told IANS here on Thursday.

Authorities of the University of Tokyo offered admission to Gupta, son of a low wage-earner generator operator, under the STEM Kikuchi-UTokyo scholarship programme, Kumar said.

The coaching institute selects 30 students every year from underprivileged sections of the society. They are taught for around one year free of cost to clear the entrance test for IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology). In the past 13 years, 308 of the institute's 360 students have cleared it.

"The cost of study in Japan's premiere university cannot be incurred by Gupta's family members. This has become possible due to his hard work and good performance, besides interest shown by the Tokyo authorities," said Kumar.

According to a letter by the university, Gupta has been given a four-year scholarship which covers admission fee, four years of tuition, and monthly allowance.

Kumar said the university authorities visited Super 30 four to five times last year and invited him to Japan.

Abhisek Gupta's father Dilip Gupta is a generator operator in Gurgaon, who could not pursue studies even up to Class 10.

"It is something that I could not even dream about. I can only afford two square meal for my family, but now Abhisek's life will change," his father said.

After SU30MKI its time for Super 30 to shine.... God speed Super 30...

The future of India is in education of its very large young population, the young is the key to the future. I hope that Mr. Gupta , wherever he decides to live and stay, will make his parents and his Indian nation proud. Tho I am sure once he finishes studies in Japan, he will most likely be offered a well paying job and doors will open for him in Japan.

A good seed planted in fertile ground will sprout beautiful fruit, as they say.

God Bless the Gupta Family!

I love these exchange programs and scholarships between Countries. Gives opportunities so many Kids out there. So Much To Learn :-):-) Being part of one Exchange program myself, I know how good and a great achievement it is.

Institutes offering QUALITY skill development are very very scarce in India.... I really hope the situation changes with the new Skill development plan of the GOI....If this plan doesn't succeed I fear the journey that we have started....
But on the other hand bodies like Super 30 embodies the nature of India... "Land of Disparities and Land of Opportunities"....

I have a colleague in my Ph.D cohort who is from India , he is Rajasthani and of the Rathore Clan. Brilliant guy, specially in Economics and wiz in Doctoral Statistics. He's here on full scholarship; i've seen pictures of the village his family lives in in Rajasthan. Now he's teaching classes at a prestigious University in New Jersey and does consultancy on the side for a large Fortune 500 Company (Johnson and Johnson).

Like i said, good seed placed in fertile soil.....will sprout rich fruit.

Indian students are known for their hard work and strong work ethic. I vouch for this, personally.

With a land like India, which has a multitude of talented students , i believe opportunities will rise so long as the GOI continues an active policy in developing more jobs for such a vast work force. The potential is there, and is very ripe!

Absolutely! Have you been to Silicon Valley ? I kid you not most of the software engineers, information systems specialists and electrical engineers there are either South Asian (Indian, Pakistan) , East Asian. Many are product of H1B program; this shows the quality and caliber of the 'Asian Brain'.

And you're right, it is time for China and India to rise.

You know lack of awareness about Govt run programmes for Skill development is also responsible for the so far lackluster performance of institutes catering to skill development .... E.g I recently got to know that their is a skill development institute near my residence, and I bet NO ONE near my residence knows about such...

That's definitely something that the municipal school board should be doing or at least should start doing. What India needs to start doing now, in terms of Ministry of Education, is focus on the hard sciences, such as STEM programs. The innovative potential of the Indian student cannot be ignored as seen in the various academic journals published here in the US. A considerable number of Indian-Americans who partake in research is stunning, actually. There should be more emphasis on biotechnology , biomedical engineering, physics, chemical engineering, chemistry, pharmacology research more so than typical service oriented fields such as Medicine, Nursing, etc.

LOL! Many are also repatriating back to India and China after some tenure in these large software companies. ;)
