Reports say that the bridge collapsed after the water flow increased in the river due to incessant rainfall over the last few days. However, questions have been raised on the quality of the newly-built bridge which was supposed to be strong enough to survive many such spells of rainfall or monsoon.

Bihar bridge collapse: A part of the road connecting the Rs 264-crore Sattarghat bridge, inaugurated by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar less than a month ago, collapsed on Wednesday. Earlier, it was reported that a portion of the Sattarghat bridge on Gandak river had collapsed. Bihar Water Resources Minister Sanjay Kumar Jha clarified that the newly-built bridge was fine and it was part of a connecting minor bridge that had collapsed. And this minor bridge is two kms away from the Sattarghat bridge.
