Bid to smuggle 900kg hashish to Balochistan foiled

Dera Ghazi Khan—The Border Military Police (BMP) on Tuesday claimed to have foiled a bid to smuggle drugs to Loralai (Balochistan) from Khushab (Punjab) at BMP Check Post Rakhi Gaj, and recovered about 900 kilograms of Charas hidden in an oil tanker truck.
Normally smuggling bid are made to Punjab from Balochistan, but it was for the first time that an effort was being made to smuggle charas to Balochistan from Punjab.
Talking to Pakistan Observer, Circle In-charge BMP Jamadar Abdullah Khan said that during routine surveillance at tribal area BMP check post of Rakhi Gaj, they stopped an oil tanker (JT-008). The truck coming from Punjab was apparently looking empty, he said. During search, the police seized huge quantity of Charas that was stuffed into about 50 plastic bags and stocked in the hidden cavities of the truck, he added.
SHO BMP Police Station Rakhi Gaj Daulat Khan said that Police have registered case vide FIR No. 3/16 under 9-C of Anti-Narcotics Act and two smugglers Muhammad Nawaz and Muhammad Qasim resident of Khanewal have been arrested. Further investigation is underway. Commandant BMP Babar Bashir visited the said police station on Wednesday and praised the performance of BMP personnel.
When contacted the SHO Punjab Police Station Sakhi Sarwar, Muhammad Ismail, on a question regarding successfully crossing the Punjab Police check post Sakhi Sarwar by oil tanker truck loaded with a huge quantity of drugs, he said that Punjab personnel were performing duty honestly last night, however due to lack of modern scanner and equipments, manually it was not possible to check the hidden parts of truck.

Concur it. You can't completely eliminate drugs smuggling, but some strict laws needed on this smuggling. Dangerous.

Pakistan did not have an epidemic drug problem until we entered that glorious "Jihad" to help our western brothers. Something like that wasn't it?

The most astonishing part. This aspect raises lots of questions on whats actually happening in Punjab right now.

Pakistan did not have an epidemic drug problem until we entered that glorious "Jihad" to help our western brothers. Something like that wasn't it?

FATA areas had long been growing opium and associated stuff. Before Soviet-Afghan War and Iran revolution, Alcohol consumption was normal in the whole region. Thus the by products of poppy were mainly popular among the hippies from US and Europe who would be traveling through all these areas and enjoying high quality hash. But post 1979 era saw ban on consumption of Alcohol in Pakistan, Iran and later on Afghanistan but the poppy remained there and then. With Afghanistan falling into hands of warlords, the poppy crop got a new boost and support. Not to deny refugees inflow did add to the spread of "charas" in Pakistan but the ground was already ripe for that quite long ago.

I am quite aware of the history of that region and hippy drug route that run through it. I am referring to the spread of drug use amongst the urban areas of Pakistan who previously were pretty much clean of that stuff.
