Point is to show China that they can't dictate Asian lands and seas, Creating a powerful block to ensure that expansionist policy of Chinese government are curtailed. China henceforth will have to share the available resources (other than those present on mainland) with its neighbours and here I am not just talking about India but several other nations (Japan, Veitnam, Australia to just name a few). This is not formation of allies and axis blocks before war but just various nations coming together to ensure that from now onwards matters are decided by taking into consideration views of all parties involved in the region and not dictated by the powerhouse of Asia.

Pakistan does not figure in the equation at all. We are discussing nations which have an actual foreign policy, not a one point agenda of just being a lacky of powerful nation to survive. Lets face it from the inception of your nation You have moved from bosom of one aid provider to another, and in lieu of that given those nations total control over your foreign policy, Usa was your all weather friend before China and they made you dance to their tune in your own backyard(Afghanistan). You have blood on your hands of your own so called brothers. Pardon me I digress, coming back to the point, agreed China is at its highest at the moment and is capable of taking on almost any nation in the world as of now with a possible exception of Usa but against the combined might of the nations in discussion it would be foolish of Chinese to test their strength.
