What's new

Bharti Airtel launches country’s first 4G service

there is no true of false 4G. G simply means generation.

1G can be used for voice transmission. 2G realizes data transmission over essentially the same network.

3G has whole new systems dedicated to data transmission, independent and well integrated with the Internet.

4G mainly improves the infrastructure of the 3G standards, such as multiple antennas in devices, better error control, and link ups to wired networks...

and at each step the ITU defines and sets standards..

Basically it dependent on the downlink and uplink speed. True 4G is supposed to have 100 Mbps and 500 Mbps uplink.

But the current installation are not truely 4G coz they cannot achieve the requirement of the 4G set by ITU.

its something like 3.9 G not fully 4 G

I swear I was watching Indian channel 3 years ago and this Indian actress on an ad said we are launching 4G network.. It took 3 years?

It is unfortunate that in spite of Indians pioneering the technology, we are not making the equipment indigenously.

His CV -

Professor Emeritus Arogyaswami Paulraj, Stanford University, is a pioneer of MIMO wireless communications, a technology break through that enables improved wireless performance. MIMO is now incorporated into all new wireless systems. Paulraj is the author of over 400 research papers, two text books and a co-inventor in 52 US patents.

Paulraj has won over a dozen awards in the US, notably the IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal, the top award for telecommunications technology pioneers. He is a fellow of seven scientific academies including the US National Academy of Engineering and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. He is a fellow of IEEE and AAAS.

In 1999, Paulraj founded Iospan Wireless Inc - which developed and established MIMO-OFDMA wireless as the core 4G technology. Iospan was acquired in by Intel Corporation in 2003. In 2004, Paulraj co-founded Beceem Communications Inc. The company became the market leader in 4G-WiMAX semiconductor and was acquired by Broadcom Corp. in 2010.

During his 30 years in the Indian Navy (1961-1991), he founded three national level laboratories in India and headed one of India’s most successful military R&D projects – APSOH sonar. He received over a dozen awards (many at the national level) in India including the Padma Bhushan, Ati Vishist Seva Medal and the VASVIK Medal.

The telecom major has appointed Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) for building and operating network in the Maharashtra circle using TD-LTE -- one of the 4G technologies.
Bharti Airtel launches country
Why would they use TD-LTE.Most of the the 4G devices are built with LTE capability and it'will the standard used by the rest of the world.Stupid Airtel:hitwall:
Another TD-SCDMA and 3G debacle in the making.
