Seriously, does the US really have that much influence on Europe and Japan?

German secret service (BND) is infested with so called atlanticists. People who don't see any future for Germany apart from that on the same path as with USA. technically not a bad path, although some additional leadership skills could be said are missing from the.....leadership.

....in Germany it's not so much American clout....it's more Germany's inability to think for themselves, due to scars of two failed attempts of thinking for themselves.

There is ofcourse cold hard calculation on the part of the US, in keeping a potential rival down, and especially Germany, as you will see in the link below, the much talked about western European norms/standards etc etc is a myth..... it's mostly northern, central and partially southern standards. Is pretty evident where the core or the engine lies...... on what, ekhm...axis .....everything else are just abnormalities due to higher income in capital cities.

Well, there are worse places to live in other than Germany, so someone is obviously doing their job. Everywhere except on the formulation of a foreign and defense policy in tune with the rest of the members of EU, which would then bring economies of scale comparable to US.

But then you have the issue of not wanting to send men to die in far away (not so far away anymore?) countries. I predict when robots make it big, Europe will be much more proactive in this regard.

To be honest i do not even know what they are thinking (bureaucrats in Bruxelles and other capitals that opted for downsizing of the armed forces). Everywhere on our borders there is either war, preparing for it, or utter shit from where people just run away from.

On the outside the EU hold hands and sing Kumbaya, on the inside there is tension. Once one EU member finds out it was being spied upon it makes a big stink about it publicly, later on news comes out that the same country that cried foul was spying too.

Yep,pretty much knew that....it's Germany and its industrial outreach in the closer areas.

There are parts of Western Europe (Portugal,Spain ,Southern Italy) which were fed EU structural funds to make them functional in the 80-90's -early 2000's just like EE today.Many in there forget that to.Many in there forget that at one point they had to choose between importing Eastern Europeans (some with good education,some with less,but if someone doubted education in EE one should take a look at math/chemistry/biology/informatic,etc olympiads) and Non Europeans-that was a no brainer once the Iron Curtain fell for the Western higher echelons(Romania alone has like 5000 doctors in France since 2007).With all the propaganda about EE one could take a quick look at countries safety stats and see that those countries are one of the safest in the world.I can go on and on.
