History shows us whenever Muslims came in power or lost the power repercussion was annihilation of Hindus in south aisa.... It continues till this day in some part of SA..... Across the western border of india already turned into green & east emulating the west....
Mophila, direct action day kolkata riots & naokhlai are the trademark of peaceful cult in SA....

So you are Dhakaiya and Barisailya both. OMG! you are so connected with Bangladesh. Dhaka, Barisal and Khulna are integral parts of Bangladesh. Why did your grandparents move to West Bengal? Technically you are illegal Bangladeshi migrant settled in Kolkata.
technically you are illegal in Bangladesh too - if you also say Muslims who migrated from today's India are illegal in Bangladesh.

people like Rain Man's family moved to West Bengal because their zamindari days and days of exploiting uneducated Muslims were coming to an end. after 1971, 'they' have officially began to exploit the Muslims again.

But history had not been kind to the relations between the two communities. The 190 year long British period is known for Hindu Zamindar's collaboration with the British and economic oppression of the Muslims in Bengal. This has been the main reason why Bengal Muslims opted for Pakistan to escape that domination and oppression. West Pakistani's again took the role of oppressors during the 24 years of Pakistan period, so Bangladesh was born to achieve freedom from that oppression.

Most of the Hindu Zamindars and money lender families have left for India since 1947. The Hindu's that remain in Bangladesh I believe are mostly from economically backward classes and not the elite British collaborator families. Because they are from the minority community, they are targeted by powerful local people from the majority Muslim community, regardless of party affiliation. A Hindu family's property, mainly land, is a lucrative target as they can be bought at a fraction of the market price if the family is threatened and, as a result, have to leave for India for better security of life and property (Jaan and Mal, as the article in OP mentioned). This indeed is the main economic driver for the migration. Land is scarce commodity in this densely populated country, even rural land has high value. So no party in power can fully solve this problem, unless the economic condition improves, the country develops at a higher pace and law and order situation improves where life and property is secure for all people including those of minorities.
before 1947, Hindus were oppressing. but after 1947, you are saying West Pakistanis started oppressing??

Hindu domination grew in this land for almost 200 years. are you saying, to get rid of it is as easy as demarcating a border and paperwork?

Hindu domination remained in East Pakistan in heaps after 1947. please remember the Hindu-communist movement against a language of the soil Urdu started very shortly after 1947 independence. there was little that vast majority of Bengali Muslims could do about it because of their political backwardness equaled with the prowess of Hindus. Bengali Muslims even began to be represented by such politics.

since 1971 until now, Hindu domination is on steroids in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is a system for extreme Hindus and by extreme Hindus. look at the so called national anthem for a start, or the only language that is state-patronized, or how Muslims' culture is targeted.

a bogus allegation of West Pakistan oppressing only exists because Bengali Muslims had right to self determination between 1947 and 1971. this is not something Hindus could tolerate and they would resorted to alleging this land is turned into an "Arab country" or West Pakistan is oppressing.

Hindus, Paharis and Jamatis were illegal after 47 as they didnt want greater Bengal or East Pak. So it was better idea for you to migrate to India like the Hindus did and after 71 you should have migrated to Pakistan as you opposed BD. But you jamaatis made life worse for the Bengali Muslims and because of Jamaati scapegoat Muslim identity has become worse than lavatory in BD like for IS in Syria and Iraq. And you Biharis were not part of any deal of Bengal partition and over that opposed creation of BD. So how do you expect anyone will respect you cowards who left their homes without fight and came to get another man's hard earned cake at ease. And you Bihari stock made life worse for Biharis who were natural migrant. But we forgiven you Hindus, Jamatis, Biharis and Paharis in a hope that you will change yourselves. But it seems like apart Hindus none of you able to follow simple commands and another crack down is eminent. Ohh it has already started.

To discuss with all the Bangladeshis here, there are roughly one crore Hindus still left in Bangladesh, we will face challenges in terms of land and resources to accommodate all of them eventually, naturally we should be concerned. Besides, it is natural for a Bengali of Bangal origin like me to be concerned about some other Bengalis across the border.

government should take strict measure not to let Hindu to go in India plus dont worry dont think they will run in india

all religion is allowed in BD there is some crazy people that is all who do bad to things to Hindu

Hindus are well integrated in Bangladesh yes? Why are you bringing them up time and again in same vein as the other anti-nationals? What exactly did they do that needs your holier than thou forgiveness?

In answer to the bold part question in your post, that is exactly what I am saying. West Pakistan together with Non-Bengali Mohajers who moved from India essentially colonized a perceived racially inferior (according to them) East Pakistan. The racial hatred of these people fortunately we have the opportunity to see even from the posts of their children and grand-children in this forum these days from time to time. Lets just say that these posts have been an eye opener for me and I learned to see the entire political evolution from 1947 to 1971 in a new light. So I must thank these Pakistani's for making these wonderful posts which helped clear up my confusion. Now what can we do to clear up your confusion? Do you follow the Bangladesh section of this forum regularly? I don't think you do. If you did, you could not have missed these posts.

Hindu domination have ended in 1947, since then what they are doing is for survival in a Muslim majority nation. Lets not mix up the issues here. Our fight with West Pakistani's and Non-Bengali Mohajer's started in 1947 and ended in 1971. Yes Hindu's in East Pakistan may have helped us in that fight, just like India did and we should be grateful to both for the help they provided in the times of our need and in getting rid of these unwanted SOB's from our soil. So using words like allegation or bogus about West Pakistan's oppression of East Pakistan is insulting the entire nation of Bangladesh and its proud existence on the face of the earth. I believe you should apologize for using such words.

Today there are 45 Secretaries of the Govt belonging to Hindu community. Most of the OCs of Dhaka are Hindus. Bangladesh Bank is literally controlled by Hindu officers. Many key / sensitive posts in the govt are held by Hindus whose loyalty to the nation as a community is suspect.

Hasina trusts the Hindu officials more, and also she needs to please India. I will believe in Hindu domination when Hasina is replaced by a Hindu head of state in Bangladesh.

Our situation is quite simple, we fight among ourselves, so others take advantage, divide and rule. Now that Hasina has won, the nation needs to unite under the winner, that is the best way forward for our nation. It will reduce outside influence. Please try to understand this point.

He won't. He has fled Bangladesh for a very clear reason (SHW) and therefore will continue to cling to grand conspiracy theories even though those make his country look really bad. Such type are not pragmatists, they will have to be ignored for the betterment and continued advancing of Bangladesh.

He is an elderly gentleman who served in Pakistan Army as an officer, fought as a freedom fighter in 1971 and then served in Bangladesh Army before retiring, that is my understanding from his posts. He is a staunch follower of Sheikh Mujib and also believes in the Muslim Ummah as well as the two nation theory as he believes that Mujib believed in these things as well. As a long time expat, he may be a little out of touch of the reality of the country, like many of us other expats.

He will never support unifying and backing SHW, as he sees her as a RAW agent. He simply cannot accept the current state of affairs and his stubborn senility comes through every time he posts something. But his generation will not be the one to make Bangladesh a developed prosperous country....thankfully!

Coptic Christians in Egypt, Hindus/Buddhists in Bangladesh, Hindus/Christians in Pakistan, Yazidis in Iraq, Christians in Northern Nigeria - the list can go on and on. Islamic world has a stellar record in protecting minority rights. Every single time instances of large scale abuse of minorities are reported, typical responses are:
  1. This is not true Islam. In time of Caliph XYZ, Jews and Christians occupied prominent places - Please don't tell us what someone did 1,200 years back. Lets talk about today, now, last 40-50 years - our own lifetimes.
  2. These minorities are anti-national/anti-Islam or some such trope - Laughable, given how the Islamic world reacts to insults, real and perceived, with riots and lynchings.
One question here - I live in Mumbai - and as I was out for my morning walk, I could make out mosque loudspeakers from at least 4 different points on compass loudly blaring out their prayers at 5.45 - the closest must have been at least a kilometre off but was enough to wake up anyone not on medication. I would like to ask that in which Islamic nation - Saudi Arabia, Pakistan or Iraq - can minorities do this - five times a day, broadcast their prayers at a very lout volume to everyone? Not in the time of Caliph XYZ, but today.
