MINSK, 19 June (BelTA) - The House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus passed a draft law On the ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on military and technical cooperation on 19 June, BelTA has learnt.
The agreement was signed during Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovichs visit to Bangladesh in November 2012. The document specifies military and technical cooperation in several areas.
These areas are the production and modernization of military equipment and control, communication and electromagnetic warfare systems. The document also provides for the joint work to create new radio-electronic military equipment and weapons and other special-purpose equipment as well as technologies to design and produce such products.
The document also stipulates the exchange of specialists to carry out defensive R&D work, develop and produce military equipment and also transfer technologies. The agreement includes the provisions that guarantee the safety of information that will be obtained in the course of such cooperation. Official and commercial secrets will be protected, too.
First Deputy Chairman of the State Military Industrial Committee Vladimir Sulimov noted that military and technical cooperation with Bangladesh began in 2005. During this time the value of the contracts that are underway or have already been implemented has reached several million dollars, Vladimir Sulimov said.
Mikhail Myasnikovich is set to visit the People's Republic of Bangladesh in July 2013. The Belarusian official will seek to establish an intergovernmental commission on military and technical cooperation, which will be a boost for two countries relations in this sphere. Some groundwork has already been carried out in this area concerning aviation, armored vehicles and optics.
