Beijing orders state offices to replace foreign PCs and software

China has its own distro of Linux decades ago, the main problem is always the hardware.
If you have big enough number of users, software will always be abundant.
One of a good approach is creating a lot of web services, so that users will only need to access the website instead of handling the OS. In fact, if you are a normal office worker nowadays, you could virtually do everything from chrome. Nearly all apps have their own web based version.
China will only have to control alibaba and beidu

International trade is already handled by Linux, not windows, more than 90% of world's stock exchanges run on Linux based platforms.

Only the servers are...but nobody has ever run any heavyweight server on Windows (Oracle on Windows...yeah right).

The portfolio manager and trading team software itself however is Windows based (like Charles River) as no Portfolio Manager or Trader is running a Linux client on their desktops to handle
trades.

Yes, Lenovo was IBM's PCs and laptops division, x86 based.

Lenovo is the new name. They revived the Thinkpad line of laptops.

Later they acquired IBM's server line up as well. X86 only, not power or their mainframe business.

Linux is not owned by any nation or state or company. Anybody can use it and it's far more mission ready than any other operating system
Thanks

Seems to me more like a propaganda item, china has been making PCs/laptops for decades now , installing root level malware in commercial pc/laptops itself they are pretty adept at it now (more than once I have identified the same), they have been making servers and super computer with their own CPU albeit being a crappy one and if I am not wrong have been using Red Flag Linux/neokylin for almost a decade now in Govt offices along winblows.

Corporate level yes they do use microshit stuff, nutshell although FT is a reputed one but don't buy into this story more than superficially. It requires monumental effort to shift from one OS totally to another OS, the considerations with a population base of china are simply mind boggling, a decade or so may be but don't count on it happening immediately.
We should also do it.
