Month-long repairs to one of the runways at Beijing Capital International airport will hit tourism in the city and damage airlines’ business, according to a newspaper report.
The repairs to one of three runways at the airport, the second busiest in the world, will be carried out from April 2 to April 29, the Beijing Youth Daily said.

The work on the middle runway, which carries about 40 per cent of the airport’s traffic, is the last of a three-stage repair programme, according to the article.
The move is expected to cut about 300 flights a day, reducing the total number to about 1,400.
Flights of 19 airlines, including Air China, China Southern Airlines and Hainan Airlines, will be affected, the report said.
It could also worsen flight delays at the airport, previously criticised for failing to meet scheduled departure and arrival times.

More than 94 million passengers used Beijing’s international airport last year.
The airport has surpassed its designed annual capacity, leading services to shift to neighbouring cities such as Tianjin and Shijiazhuang.
Beijing is now building a seven-runway international airport south of the capital.
It is due to open in 2019.
