That was for the sake of @Water Car Engineer since he believes India had nothing but mud to trade during the Roman empire and that it received civilization from there. So what I am posting are archaeological structures from the pre-Roman and Roman ear time period in India.
No, I said India wasn't as advanced as Roman or Greeks in many fields. This is fact.
Yes, but in terms of coin making, etc. India was primitive compared to the Romans. Romans, Greeks, etc. were working with marble, stone, bronze, etc, etc. in much more sophisticated ways than India and in larger quantities.
You were claiming Romans were advanced in marble and stone than India when clearly the amount of stone works in India which predates the Roman era disproves it. Now you have reduced yourself to quibbling over a period of 100 years or so when just some time ago you were claiming how one cant even properly predict 50 years in the future let alone 1000 years in the past.
There isnt any major stone works before the Mauryas, SHOW me.
Sanchi - 1st century BC
Bhaja Caves, 1st century BC
There's only one rock cut cave from the Mauryas
That's this one from Barabar. And it's a small prototype of what's to come.
There's wooden architectural styles in this example. Hence, they were transitioning from wooden to more stone works.
There's only a couple of examples, while in the Gerco Roman, Mediterranean world, there are far more examples. Hence I stand, they were more advanced than Indians at the time.
Sanchi stupa including the gates and Baja caves are all from 3rd century BCE to 2nd century BCE during Maurya's time period. Plus I posted so many other both free standing and cave rock cut architecture from 1 century CE which corelates with Roman era.
Oh so a wooden architectural style in an art work is an indication that they are transitioning from wood huh, so all those plaster of Paris and other concrete filled artworks which continues to this day are all because we are just transitioning from wooden architecture?
@INDIC See this thread? From almost page 9 to page 28 there were almost exclusively non church based arguments. Yet you developed a huge secular constipation on seeing a few ancient Indian architecture pics. Hope your constipation is now relieved since I removed those pics.
What you see of Sanchi isnt made in the Mauryas time. It was made in the satavahanas time. Again, you're a novice and talk like you know what you're talking about. Andras built over a smaller Mauryan mound and replaced the wooden railings with stone ones. Is this hard for you to understand?
Bhaja Caves is also made by the Andras. You didnt post anything. You posted many structures that are built over.
It's like saying this is the oldest mosque in India.
Maybe at one point, but the structure there right now is made much later.
The Satvahanas and the Mauryas have about 45 years of interlap between them. Maurya period ends in 185 BCE and Satvahanas start at 230 BCE. Both of them have sophisticated stone work between them. Those rock cut caves are not stone laid work to be extended in a particular fashion.
Mauryas were just started to experiment with many things. Like I said, they were moving towards more stone works from wood, wood was still the prime material however.
This is the only rock cut caves by the Mauryas for example. They have pillars, etc. too.
That proves nothing. Even today houses are built in USA of wood. Would you say they have no other technology?
Copper form of Vishnu from Oc Eo culture, Vietnam dated 4000 years old.
Vishnu stonehead from Oc Eo culture dated 4000 years old.
Now you should be thinking Indians developed brains only 2000 years later than both the Greeks and Vietnamese did.
No, of course not. Their wooden structures would've looked amazing. Just like the Chinese and Japanese ones, but they were most definitely more advanced if they were working with stone, marble, bronze, gold, silver and other metals in the fashion they were doing it. And at the quality and quantity they did it is much more than India, fact.
OMG, you're seriously so clueless about what you post. So you're telling me that those things which didnt even exist 4000 years ago in India existed in SE Asia?
