KARACHI: When it comes to our daily life, consumer products play an essential role. We use various types of products to satisfy our needs and wants. These products are one among the many that keep the economic activity in a country running. Pakistan’s economy remained in a not-so-positive condition throughout the year, and earned a negative ranking among the global economies. Recently, President Dr Arif Alvi raised a point of supporting our country by buying locally-produced products rather than buying the foreign ones, in order to support our own economy. The president should also consider this fact that the products manufactured in Pakistan are often of substandard quality. This is one reason for consumers preferring foreign products to local ones. Supporting our country is great, but the government should also do more to ensure a set standard for products manufactured here.

Thats impossible since you dont produce much of consequence. Sports good, surgical instruments,cotton and cement. For the rest you are dependent on outside world.

Yes we should ban technology which increases labour productivity and creates economic growth. Also this idea should be aired on a forum powered by said banned technology.

Mind you nothing should be done about oil prices even though oil makes up 23% of our imports. Cell phones and computers that let you communicate remotely and avoid unnecessary journeys thereby saving fuel should be banned. However fuel prices should be reduced to encourage its consumption even though oil import is a far larger problem than computers and cell phones. Also we should ban the import of used japanese k cars that have twice the fuel efficiency of locally assembled new cars.

indians kindly keep your negativity inside yourself dont need to see it, is that clear? :enjoy:

India, Pakistan and Bangladesh should cooperate on the design of a South Asian microprocessor and operating system. Plus, there should a microprocessor fabrication plants in India and Pakistan set up with the help of China.

@Zibago @django

@AZADPAKISTAN2009
india doesnt sit at the same table as us, thats why we buy China made ....BUT these days computers last few yrs ...say 2 then they start slowing down or the owner gets greedy for the latest model and gets a new one! (USUALLY NOT ALWAYS that is why China cheaper ones appeal to many)

but sure :enjoy:

I dont think we need to ban anything, increase the import tax.

We just need to encourage people to entrepreneurship and/ or innovate.

If innovation and basic economics doesnt come naturally to the common Pakistani then just push them in a corner and increase tax! In Africa, where economy is bad, some people try to innovate new ways to do things...recycling, using basic common sense and surviving. The number of awards given to Africans for their innovation should be encouraging for our badsha ki aulads who import instead of trying to help the economy by using their brains and hands!

.
innovation will take time and only work after education system improves currently our govt is not spending much on education only food items can be provided by domestic markets as well as clothing to some extent technology and electronics must be imported and no need to increase tax on necessary technology items foreign food should be simply banned instead of increasing tax which results in inflation

@Dubious The allowance of Taxed goods to enter pakistan idea does not works because local companies get killed as the importers flush the market with dropped price rate which make it impossible for new local companies to survive and 95% of time the tax is not even collected. Pakistanis are sucker for Brand name , put a word BMW beside a garbage can and they will buy it

During 50's-60's and 70's

  • Pakistan had a thriving Textile Industry
  • Industrialist were putting money into new Areas like Automotive (experimenting)
  • Pakistan had Machine Toll Manufacturing base
  • Pakistan was/is? making own medicine in side Pakistan
  • Pakistan's Mega corporations Airlines / Railways were making profits
  • Pakistan's Bank's were solid , people used to buy Insurance policy there was planning

Some where after 71 , the chain was disrupted
  • Refugee crisis across border
  • The Karachi / Raw bombings / mafia gangs culture explosion
  • Unchecked imports of imported goods
  • Policies offering no protection for local markets

If you tax the imports, how does it have a lower price than local products?
