LOL. What is so great about this news ?

India is planing to purchase 262 missiles at the cost of 144 million $.

Which means each missile will cost us more than half a Million $.

Or were you under the impression that we are going to produce those missiles in India ?

The price also includes launchers, support systems etc etc and not just the missiles.

Nope. These are canistered missiles so No separate launchers or support system is required. CMS is already installed and integrated. These are just stock replenishing.

Most of these missile are for Warship, which already have support system and launchers for this Barak missile. So, this is actually the cost of missile.

RAM which is Barak counterpart costs 2 times more.
RAM has less range (9 km vs 12 km).
RAM lacks vertical launch.
RAM has IR guidance (affected by bad weather, fog).

I think we should insist Israel to build Barak NG more quickly as it should be the next gen naval SAM for us . We have
bigger threats brewing in our neighbourhood
Plus plans of chinese sells of latest Anti ship missile with hypersonic terminal stage missiles to PAK like the
CM-400AKG supersonic anti-ship and standoff land attack missile. This is believed to travel at speeds up to Mach 4, making it hard to intercept and providing enough kinetic energy at impact to destroy a high-value target.

which the PAF are calling "carrier killer " even if it cant kill a carrier but can do considerable damage to a warship for sure

But yes Barak I would be handy till that time being

CHEERS

According to IAI website Barak 1 has range of maximum 10 km.

The green light that has now been given by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), which Modi chairs, for the acquisition of 262 missiles has come much to the relief of the Indian Navy, given its rapidly dwindling stock of anti-ballistic missiles for its frontline battleships. The Indian Navy has been voicing concerns over its deficiencies, with ships operating without missile defense systems. New Delhi’s announcement of the procurement at a whopping cost of $144 million is thus a welcome move.
