Bangladesh’s first metro train completes test run

Yes it is as that happens on London Underground that I ride on regularly.

Electric trains are already doing 40km/h even before they have cleared the station they are departing from due to instant torque from their electric motors.

The Japanese can build underground/metros just as well as the UK I would imagine.
No I am not questioning the capability of the train to hit 100 km/h. It is very unusual for a commuter train to choose to hit 100 km/h in such short distances especially over the ground. Let's see.

It doesn't have to unless it's late or something , here in New York we have Express trains which skip certain stations and generally they go pretty fast soo

Like I say I travel regularly on London underground and even on just 2-3 km distance between stations the trains hit 100km/h.Why would you not go as fast as is safely possible?

Any possible wear down with such speeds ?

Good point.

BD could choose to not run them at their top speed of 100km/h as the higher speeds will of course cause greater wear down on both the track and the train. It will depend on how much extra this is and whether the time savings will make up for it in the Metro operator's calculations.

Only brakes and suspension components (which have very little wear anyway). Brake pads do get changed out periodically on schedule. The motors are typically brushless, so no wear there.

I was wondering the other day if BD is going to implement express service at peak hours..

Anybody know about what kind of metrocard system mrt is going to have? Swipe cards are shitty but i don't know if tap systems are as robust as swipe ones.

Guys I don't care how bad the coaches look or how fast they are. As long as the passengers don't destroy the seats and as long as they get to the next station, I'll be happy.... :-)

Tap needs a more expensive chip card which uses proximity wireless mechanism. Maybe okay for your visa but not a railways pass card.

Swipe cards are way cheaper as they simply include an encoded magnetic strip (which wears out a lot sooner by use). But swipe cards are supposed to be monthly anyway and then you can toss them. My take is swipe cards will be used.

If Tap cards will be used then they may be of the rechargeable variety at kiosks.

I doubt any one from upper middle class (unless they're desperate) will ride these things. Except maybe older school kids and office going folks. And of course the lower middle class villages. Initially there will be looky-loos from every wealth group.

They really need to put in some security in every coach for checking vandalism and robbery. I'd be interested to find out what was done in this respect in Pakistan (Lahore?) and India. Some criminals are too dumb to realize they cannot escape from a secure facility like a metro terminal.

Come to think of it - NYC would be the best example to emulate for this law enforcement.

I am more worried about the air conditioning and the windows..first the acs will stop working/ parts will be stolen...then people will start breaking windows.

They should install multiple CCTV cameras in every coach to catch vandals.
