What's new

Bangladesh’s Dollar reserves on track to hit 40 billion by next June

Tourism is one aspect.

The other is that we have now fast and reliable road, energy and internet links between Dhaka and SW BD. Soon there will also be a rail link as well.

SW BD has now joined in the BD economic boom. :dance3:

The 4 billion US dollars that BD government spent on the bridge so far will be one of the best investments ever.

4 billion USD to build just 6. kilometer bridge ?

Indonesian inshaAllah will build 7 kilometer bridge between Batam and Bintan island for just 300 million USD.

.
The Padma bridge story alone disproves so many lies about a fake economy. The bridge revenues are almost triple what was predicted - that is undeniable real world data

Ps.

@bluesky IS the turkey, one who voted for Christmas! A renowned "malaun"according to mullahs on this forum, who supports jamaat.

If @bluesky is the Turkey - I want him served up on a platter with hot sauce and extra crunchy potatoes - just the way Jamie makes it 😂😂😂

Haha

If we could build Padma bridge even for two billion - it would have been built a decade ago by BNP/Jamat.

All the western “experts” wrote it off as a crazy idea. Saying a river like Padma could not be tamed let alone building a bridge.

If Indonesia can build them so cheaply why don’t you offer your services to North African countries? Or even Pakistan???

Remember how World Bank accused Hasina's son Joy of Padma bridge corruption ?
This is what they do now in Bangladesh.

1) They inflate construction cost

2) Involve foreign shell companie in some capacity ( Joy opened one in Canada).

3) Send money (US $) to the Shell company in a foreign country as payment for work done.

All 100% legal !

Bro the entire country is not blind for a price to be inflated 10 times. Of course there was corruption, but the bridge cost in the billions without a doubt - look into the project first and you will see

Check this international journal. The budget was $2.6b in 2011. It was completed in 2022 under the expected 6b it was predicted to rise to.

The reality of the project is in the revenue.

It was expected to raise around $40m in year one - which was considered to acceptable against the build cost.

In reality it collected nearly $20m in the first quarter alone - double what was expected.

That's the true value of the bridge - it is an essential infrastructure work that no one had the nerve, the budget or the foresight to carry out in 50 years. 90% of neutral Bangladeshis will tell you that the cost of the bridge was worth every penny.

Busy making infrastructure development inside the country. Not having enough capacity and financing like China construction companies have.

The one who will likely build the bridge is Hutama Karya, one of SOE big constructors that is currently building Trans Sumatra Highway. They are the only company so far that has already shown the interest and has offered the proposal on the tender.

----------------

Trans-Sumatra Toll Road is an under-construction tolled expressway stretching across Sumatra Island in Indonesia from the northern tip of Banda Aceh to the southern tip of Bakauheni. This toll road was originally planned to connect to the established toll road system of Java through the now cancelled Sunda Strait Bridge.[1] The toll road is to include supporting corridors connecting the cities of Padang,[2] Bengkulu,[3] and Sibolga[4] on the western coast of the island to the main corridors stretching across the more populated eastern coast. State construction company Hutama Karya[a] has been given a government-granted monopoly to operate the network.

The toll's entire length of 2,818 km (1,751 mi)[5] will cost an estimated Rp476 trillion (US$33.2 billion)[6][7] and consist of seventeen main segments and seven supporting segments.[5] The toll road is expected to be completed by 2024. As of October 2022, 1,074 km (667 mi) of the road were completed and operational.[8]

---------------------

Basically they are already conglomeration and can build cheaper due to having many subsidiary companies making many construction parts.

Some of our SOE has made many projects overseas that include project to enlarge Masjidil Haram, LRT project in Taiwan, and also rail project between Laos and Vietnam.

This 7 kilometer long bridge will likely be financed by foreign bank in China that I think would not force us to use China construction companies or materials.

Not comparable as building a bridge over the Padma is quite trickly due to depth of water(more than 100metres) and also the immense cost of relocating people in such a densely populated area.

This is not just a road bridge but also can accomodate a train line, power and communications links.

Also we need to remind people of just how many people will use a bridge like this regularly - it will be many 10s of millions and the cost per capita is not that high.

It will probably pay for itself by 2025 in terms of tolls and extra economic activities.

Your proposed “bridge” is a glorified flyover.

I have been to India many times and seen the quality of Indian infra.

It’s utter crap!

And are delivered years late.

Bangalore metro was delivered a decade late. And no where near quality of the Dhaka metro built by Japan.

Quality has a cost.

Also, most of the materials had to be imported. Which obviously adds to the cost.

Plus, our great Dhakaya BUET engineers cannot build Jack shite. Thus, expertise has to be imported - again adding to the cost.

Do you know how expensive it is to build on 2 KM thick silt?

River training alone cost over a billion.

You are comparing apples and oranges.

Yes and I did not include those costs as these are minor compared to the other factors I mentioned.

Now you know how are the present govt people stealing money from the state in various illicit ways? BAL party is not going to change its culture unless it is forced to answer to the people in the general election.

A fair election is needed and the general people want to throw away this party to the dustbins in the next election. The BAL party is unwilling to see the writing on the wall.

But, it will have to accept the opinions of the general people that an election-time caretaker govt is formed.
