What's new

Bangladeshis have mixed reaction to West Bengal’s name-change proposal

Sir.. i dont want to offend anyone on this forum, but by going with your logic, Prophet Mohammad died centuries ago.. why didnt you move on and find something new to read and sing ??
Nobody read Mohammed. Mohammed did not write anything.

Who gives a flying f**k what these kno*heads call themselves as for the shi*y tagore garbage they can have it.. This anemic anti-Muslim song is an embarrassment to the nation.

Sorry for any mistakes. The poem/song above was written by a famous Hindu Poet. I forgot his name. During 1971 war time there were quite a long discussions in the Cabinet of the then BD govt. in exile if this or Tagor's Amar Shonar Bangla ---- should be made the National song of Bangladesh. Finally, they decided to take Amar Shonar Bangla. Our national song is really difficult for normal people to sing. It is too high a tone/tune. I like the one above because wordings are rich and the melody is easy to sing.

I have full doubt about someone claimed he newly put melody to 'Amar Shonar---' poem, because the melody completely accords with the melody of a Baishnab song of a 1953 Calcutta film, named, 'Rai Komol,' the main roles played by Uttam and Kaberi Bose. One can hit the computer to get the movie on the computer screen.

U dont know anything about Mohammed. Better stick with the discussion about tagore

As far as i know tagore did a great deal of favor for bangladesh than mohammed. (just fr comparison). Yet you want to shun tagore. Dont you have history classes in school ? Tagore is the gem of bangla. Atleast try not to disrespect him.

Of course razakar will have pain to sinthis beautiful anthem cause they want to sing Pakistan's national anthem. Why don't you razakar go back to Pakiatan.

No nothing what so ever to do with Pakistan. The identity of Bangladesh is routed to its Islamic heritage and its struggle for sovereignty. Tagore was against this struggle and was a hindutva turd who worshipped the British.

I objection is that the song is sh*t and it's history stands against Muslim identity. No one cares about Pakistans anthem in the BD context. BD needs a song that reflects its history and projects its aspirations. BD needs something by Nazrul or anyone ...... Anything but this droning cr*p

It's written by DL Ray.... It's ok... Not particularly knowledgable about his affiliation ..... Any song or songwriter who was against partition of Bengal as far as I am concerned is Anti-Muslim raving hindutva turd thus inappropriate. If he is not of this mould the song is ok and should have been the correct choice not the Tagore sh*t they end up choosing .... BAL really knows how to fu*k it up

Tagore died almost a century ago. People should move on and find something new to read or sing. Beshi kochlaile shob kichu tita hoia jai. Tagor falls into beshi kochlano category.
This is an odd logic from you.If this logic apply for all, then British should forget Shakespear? Rabindranath transcend time just like Shakespear,John Milton,Dante or Homer.Without his literature Bangla will be very poor language.

Who gives a damn?

I concur. It's sound gay, if I may add to your thought.

1. This an interesting diversion. What percentage of Pakistanis actually understand what they are singing. The song is full of Persian whereas it should have contained words / terms from Bangla, Punjabi, Brohi, Pashtu and Sindhi beside easy Urdu. Till 1955 we in EP used to sing another national anthem. It was something like this:
"Pakistan Zindabad, Pakistan Zindabad/
Prabo Banglar Shamolina - etc."
There were many Urdu terms so that it could be understood by most educated people in WP. This was really the second betrayal by WP after the language riots.
2. Consider this. Our anthem and Bharat's anthem are written by the same person. Our national symbol Shapla is younger cousin of Bhrat's Padmo. Jai Bangla and Jai Hind sound same. The sun which has risen in the east is depicted in our flag. We are east of what? Are there no peoples / nations east of us? Our four constitutional basic principles are ditto of India's. Except that we are unicameral, there is hardly any difference in our constitutions. Ours was penned under the CM of WB. (Forget his name. Grandson of CR Das and lover of Indira.) When the recognition of BD became imminent Indira asked her BF to arrange a Constitution. He had tasked a Bengali constitutional lawyer with this. Bharat Mata's constitution was taken as the model. FYI, our Kamal Husain is not the "proneta". He merely put some dots and commas here and there. So you can see where lies our Swadhinota / sovereignty!

Shakespear, Jalal Uddin Rumee etc are great poet and admired not only by English but Every other linguistic populace and literature. Nobody made Shakespear a God like what Bengalis did to Tagore. Tagore should had his place as a great Bengali poet and thats where it should end.

West Bengali Jamindar and babus never accepted the reality that they lost the free loading from East Bengal, so they kept West in their part of Bengal with an imaginary existence of East Bengal. Better late then never. India has only one Bengal and that should be named as Bengal instead of West Bengal.

Yes he died a long time ago, back in 1942. However, his work lives on. Shakespeare work is still taught and played almost all over the English speaking world even after 400 years. I still find Jonathon Swift's "Gulliver's Travels" so relevant even after almost 300 years from when it was first published.

I agree there is there is a big hoopla of events around his birth and death anniversaries, nevertheless, his works are masterpieces !!!!

another evil chanakyan bengali writer who tried to snatch Bangladeshi identities by writing $h!tty stuff about East Pakistan and West Bengal, which was alien to each other since bygone ages.I know by heart that he was a RAW agent.Anyway,he also died a century ago,so he and his writing is irrelevant.Bla Bla Bla....

By the way, thanks a lot for such information.Unlike some, few bangladeshis still read bengali literature,it is really heart warming.

You should not drag religion in this topic, pretty soon it will be all about piss drinking , female infanticide, no beef in India, you know, the works !! You really don't want to go that way.

P.S Its also against the forum policy.

Me, Razakar? I simply expressed my distaste for the national anthem, why does that make me a traitor? It sounds camp and has no relevance to present day BD or the people of this landmass. Have I ever witnessed my father sing this song? No. Just a few open bellied shilpis with a tikka the size of a full moon with their horrid voices.

I've said this before, let go of this pak phobia and realise who the true aggressors are, pak has nothing to do with us, the sooner you realise this the better as you'll save us from embarrassment.
