Bangladesh is the sixth top country of origin of international migrants in 2019 having 7.80 million diaspora, according to a new estimates released by the United Nations (UN) on Wednesday.

The UN estimates also showed that the number of migrants across the world reached at 272 million.

Concerning their place of birth, one-third of all international migrants originate from only ten countries.

India leads the list having around 18 million people living abroad. Migrants from Mexico constituted the second largest diaspora (12 million), followed by China (11 million), the Russian Federation (10 million) and the Syrian Arab Republic (8 million), according to the UN.

The International Migrant Stock 2019, a dataset released by the Population Division of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) on September 18, provides the latest estimates of the number of international migrants by age, sex and origin for all countries and areas of the world.

diaspora with foreign passport are not considered migrant.

They are taking into consideration legal immigrant who has indicated their birth place is x for example. If any Pakistani born abroad he may be a Pakistani living abroad but not counted here. It also doesn’t consider illegal immigrants.

Most money of Bangladesh comes through hundi. So it’s not high on paper.

but why Indians and Bangalis preferring to leave their developed countries and going abroad is a question......

Wheres Pakistan????
Pakistanis preferred to live in Pakistan as compared to Bangladesh and India as living condition in Pakistan is still better then these countries hence less Pakistanis going abroad for petty jobs.

Bangladesh is developed compared to Pakistan as seen at the per capita gdp or at the gdp growth but not compared to advanced economies. That is the reason Bangladeshis are going abroad which in turn helped Bangladesh to develop further.

so Bangladesh is more developed then Pakistan but less developed then west while Pakistan is less developed then Bangla but more developed then west hence less Pakistanis going abroad?

and how Bangladeshis are helping when still more Bangladeshis abroad sending less remittances compared to less Pakistanis living abroad sending more, shows that mostly Bangladeshis going abroad for doing low level jobs which should not happens if Bangladesh is really more developed then Pakistan out of paper as well.

Migrants, legal/illegal are not the same thing as workers and diaspora, many millions Pakistanis working in GULF countries cannot be classified as migrants.

Still in the LDC list, least developed country, how ironic...Pakistan is not a LDC.

Pakistan should be as well as in all indicator Pakistan is behind Bangladesh and no chance of reversal in near future.

Bangladeshis are sending more but in terms of hundi or carrying money while traveling to Bangladesh. Every year 500-800k people are going abroad but remittance has not increased for last couple of years indicates money laundering.

When they send money to their family it helps them to come out of poverty and boost local economy.

Wheres Pakistan????

I hope that the reason why Pakistanis aren't on that list is because they know or should know that they have to build their country and not because American Green Card or British Residency is gold dust.

Hundi is more of a problem in Pakistan along with those who carry money them on their way back.
