Even though still I am not 100% sure he is from BIT but 1 thing that seems to me that after going to USA he was passing too much time on facebook and online. Something wrong happened there. Believe me most of the people when they go abroad initially internet become their only friend. As it is said he went to some facebook page their he might have been brain washed and said what he was planning to do.

Not impossible but very unlikely

New York suspect was no radical: Bangladeshi family

DHAKA — The family of a Bangladeshi man accused of trying to blow up the New York Federal Reserve spoke of their distress Thursday, describing him as a devout Muslim and denying he had shown radical tendencies.

Speaking from the family's home in Dhaka, a relative of Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis said they had spoken to him only hours before his arrest on Wednesday and even discussed a possible bride for him.

"We heard the news this morning. Everyone is crying here," the 21-year-old's brother-in-law, who would only give his first name Arik, told AFP.

"Nafis never showed any form of radicalisation when he was in Bangladesh. He said prayers five times a day and used to read the holy Koran every day."

The relative said that Nafis had moved to the United States last year with one of his uncles and had originally gone to study at a university in Missouri but he later moved to New York.

Nafis was arrested in Manhattan next to the Federal Reserve building after he tried to detonate what he thought was a live bomb, but was actually a dummy provided in a sting operation, according to US federal prosecutors.

He traveled to the US "for the purpose of conducting a terrorist attack on US soil", prosecutors said. He allegedly wrote a statement claiming responsibility for his planned attack in which he said he wanted to "destroy America", and referred to slain Al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden as "beloved".

The family, who live in the middle-class North Jatrabari neighbourhood of Dhaka, remained in regular touch with Nafis during his time in the United States, the relative added.

"We even talked to him last night and told him that we're looking for a bride for him. He did not mind," he said.

Before moving abroad, Nafis had been studying electrical engineering at the Dhaka-based North South University, according to a spokesman at the university.

North Jatrabari is not an upscale area of Dhaka, but North South University is on Kemal Ataturk Avenue, near Banani Bazaar, so that is a good area and one of the best private univ. in Dhaka, if not Bangladesh. He definitely was a reasonably good student, because he was able to get into NSU, but not good enough to get into BUET for example. I am surprised that he traveled from Jatrabari to NSU everyday? Did he finish his Bachelors before moving to the US and why not?

Sounds like he is one of these pious young kid from a pious household, which is a good data point. And somehow Bangladesh education system forgot to teach him Islamic military law. I am sure the mother is a simple pious house wife. I wonder what his fathers profession is?

North South uni is in Bashundhara residential area and education in North South Uni is expensive. Per credit cost 4500 taka if I am not wrong so whole tuition fee including other fees goes upto around 7-8 lakh taka atleast...

Coming from Jatrabari is not a big issue. Many wealthy old dhaka people lives there. From description it is appearing his father do business.

This is the 3d view of the new campus...

By the way he is 21 so he is not likely to finish undergrad...

kobiraaz bhai, no such luck for him, its going to be American jail food for him for many years. He may get out eventually on parole, based on good conduct, that could be decades away and hopefully he will no longer be stupid by then.

He will be raped in the american jail. Bangladeshi jails are much much better than an american jail. He will be a federal penitentiary for a long time, hope he doesn't drop the soap:lol:

Ok his identity has been found... at last...

Bangladeshi accused of US plot a college dropout - The Times of India

DHAKA: A young Bangladeshi man accused of plotting to blow up the New York Federal Reserve is a bank manager's son who dropped out of the country's most liberal university before moving to the United States.

Authorities in New York allege that Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis travelled to the US with "the purpose of conducting a terrorist attack" and actively sought out al-Qaida contacts after his arrival.

But the family of the 21-year-old insist he had never displayed any radical tendencies but was rather a devout Muslim whose arrest had come as a deep shock.

"We're stunned. Nafis is not a radical type. He says prayers five times a day, and reads the holy Quran and Hadith every day. I have never seen him reading any books on jihad," his father Quazi Mohammad Ahsanullah told AFP on Thursday.

"We don't believe that he can have committed this... He is our pride and joy."

Nafis's extended family lives in North Jatrabari, an upper middle-class neighbourhood of southeastern Dhaka. His father is a senior vice president of National Bank and his sister is a doctor.

Speaking to AFP from the family home on Thursday, Nafis's brother-in-law Arik said they had spoken to him only hours before his arrest and even discussed a possible bride for him.

"We heard the news this morning. Everyone is crying here," said Arik. "Nafis never showed any form of radicalisation when he was in Bangladesh."

Nafis had been an unexceptional high school student but managed to get a place as an undergraduate at North South University, a private university known for being the country's most liberal centre of learning as well as its most expensive.

Bangladesh is an overwhelmingly Muslim and conservative country, but North South stands out as a place where upper-class male and female students can mingle freely on campus, usually dressed in designer Western clothing.

University officials said that Nafis had struggled during his eight semesters as an electrical engineering and telecommunications student and had been effectively forced to leave after disappointing exam results.

"He obtained one of the lowest exam point scores in December last year. He had already been under probation for three semesters," said Belal Ahmed, a spokesman at the university.

His family and Nafis's own Facebook page show that he then moved to the United States where he initially took up a place at Missouri Southern State University.

"We were afraid that he would be spoiled after going to America, but he told us that he remained a devout Muslim," said Ahsanullah.

"He completed only one semester at Missouri Southern University. But it was too costly. He went to New York and then took a job at a hotel."

Nafis has allegedly written a statement claiming responsibility for his planned attack in which he said he wanted to "destroy America" and referred to slain al-Qaida founder Osama bin Laden as "beloved."

He has been charged with trying to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to support al-Qaida. Federal prosecutors office say he "attempted to recruit individuals to form a terrorist cell inside the United States".

But according to his father, Nafis's main concern was trying to scrape together a living to afford to pay for a computer science course and for the rent on a property he was sharing with a relative in the Queens district.

"He used to work 10 hours a day at the hotel," said Ahsanullah.

Talk logically, please! What is here to entrap a Muslim country when an individual is involved? And what is this WCC crap? Why did you invent it? It is just another Jihadist! Why you guys do not just kill yourselves and go straight to the laps of Huriis in Paradise instead of making this world unliveable for others and yourselves?

You are the guys who are responsible for burning the Temples in Ramu and all in the name of Allah. What a hypocrisy! I see quite a few Jihidi teenagers here so brainwashed by their Mullah parents that for an imaginative afterworld Paradise they are bent on destroying their own country. And you are here to play fanboy! Rubbish!

1.You have your views as I have mine. But that's no reason to blow tops please.

2. I stand by my view that this young boy was lured into a well thought out trap to tarnish our image in the WCC media / perception. That has been a RAW-US Intel project for some years. With a "terrorist" image they can pressurise us better.

3. I hope you know what the fols are: Jihad, Huri, Paradise and Mullah. These are not abuses or deragotory terms used in anger or lightly by us Muslims.

4. From Day 1 of Islam, WCC (Western Christian Civilization) has been on course to exterminate Islam / Muslims. Among many reasons let me mention only two:

a. Islam is not a theocracy. It does not have a class of clergy. That strikes right at the heart of the Christian Church and the Zionist Rabbis. With Islam coming in they loose their wealth, luxary, power, prestige and sometime sinful pleasures.

b. Islam forbids usuary, which is the use of money as a merchandise. This again hits hard at Zionists and Christian Civilization both of whom are capitalistic to the core.

just look at the records, of FBI, you will find out all logic.Even the Americans are saying that this is bunch of rubbish. My guess, its related to the election.Maybe something to give Obama a bad name for letting this kind of people get into the country.

And please, Muslims will never go to violence. The moment he breaks any kind of law of the islamic way, he is not a Muslim anymore. The ones who are in senses are actually wanting such people to be arrested.

This freakin so called "sting operation" is against human rights. How can you legally setup a man for a crime that he may have never committed unless he was approached and encouraged by authorities, what kind of oppressive law is this? Few days ago An indian channel disguised as Sri lankan authority offered 6 umpires job and in exchange asked them fix their own matches!!

Dude they even send undercover to check if the shopkeeper checks the id while selling cigarette.
Few of my Indian friends got into trouble picking a hooker who turned out to be a under cover.
Thats how American system works and people have faith in their system unlike ours where a cop would be doing all the setup to blackmail people.

. .
Well....that's too bad.

This idiot's parents spent all that money to send him to study in the US. This is a luxury that few Bangladeshis can afford. And he ultimately winds up sleeping on a concrete slab behind bars for the rest of his life.

Talk about wasted youth, commitments and hopes. It's not easy to raise a child either. All wasted.

I don't hate him, just pity him and his parents severely.

The one's who should be hated are the ones who indoctrinated him in the first place. The Internet really is a big curse on Muslims. And it should controlled.

No it isn't.

RAW doesn't have any contacts with the CIA work in line together.

Your first point failed.

b. Islam forbids usuary, which is the use of money as a merchandise. This again hits hard at Zionists and Christian Civilization both of whom are capitalistic to the core.

Then why is it that you say Dr. Yunus is a "hero"? You even said some pretty derogatory things about him before. And that just because his daughter happens to be Jewish.

I thought lying was against your religion, is it not asad71?

Pretty much ignored the rest of your garbage.

And besides, there are thousands of Bangladeshi students and Muslim students from every known Muslim-majority country in America and Canada.

And no, the use of money is not discouraged in Islam. Only interest is. Hence, your whole definition of usury is completely wrong. And this shows your lack of knowledge in Islam.

Just do us all a favor: Do not try to kill or threaten anyone in the name of religion, and do not instigate any young clueless Muslims to do so in any way.

iajdani and Zabaniya, both are correct in their assesment. But Zabaniya, I do not appreciate your disrespectful tone with this elderly gentleman who served in high position. He comes from a different era and age and it is natural that he will have a little different view and may not be totally up to date with happenings today. He is a valuable resource because he has seen, experienced and knows things none of us will ever go through.

I usually don't reply to his posts to be honest. You should see how others reply.

But I couldn't help but reply since his post were packed with lies.

And usually, I'm pretty harsh against anyone posting lies about Islam and Dr. Yunus; whom I admire very much.

Especially from Muslims regarding Islam, and it is justified to be more harsh against them than against non-Muslims.

Not being up-to-date with today's age, and lying are two very different things.
